In a bad place, help me understand please
I have not been able to get a job for awhile now. I've tried all kinds of techniques while interviewing and I just get passed over. I have college degree in the sciences and have made (and lost) over 6 million dollars in my life. I've cleaned toilets and performed audits for the federal government. And yet I can't get an entry level job. Please.. folks here, help me find employment. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Jeff
I don't know exactly where you are in the world but a lot of places may be shutting down for months due to the virus.
The upside, if you can call it that, is that many communities will be looking to the fit and healthy to keep essential services going & helping others less fit and healthy.
These may be waged positions, or on a volunteer basis but all of them will look great on your CV once all this is over.

YOU are not doing anything wrong Jeff. You are doing everything right in looking for work. What more can a man or woman do?
The world is in crisis at the moment Jeff, it's going to be hard for anyone to get a job. People are being laid off.
If you are not in immediate financial stress I wouldn't be worrying about getting work. Keep applying, but don't stress.
Write a few songs. Volunteer somewhere. Write some poetry. Join the Unemployed People's Union. Paint a picture. Take some pics of a Robin, now in decline in your country. And it's Spring. I dunno. Do something. There's more than one way to look at work.

In recovery, you are far from weak. “Humility is the ability to admit your imperfections and weaknesses to yourself and others and not being afraid to ask for help or support. You realize that you have the power to change how you view and approach your life—and that creates a huge sense of empowerment and confidence.

Come on Jeff. Sing along.
If Willie can,
I can,
and you can.
On the road again.

Have you asked those employers that interviewed you for feedback? This will maybe help you to tailor an application. I do think that COVID-19 has brought normal company HR processes to a stand-still, I imagine that most companies are in some sort of crisis/continuity management phase at this stage and hiring is not a priority. There will be high demand through the voluntary sector as we work through the current crisis so maybe a way in there. Drinking is not a great idea but I suspect you know. Repeated rejections are hard to take, I went through a lot of that with employers years ago. Good luck and keep going!

Oh I understand the ask Dee, and yes I will take a UA any time, anywhere.
In re-reading my original title, what I didn't make clear is that I was kind of looking to people who know how to perform in an interview, or those who interview people and what they expect.

I remember when I left college in early Summer of 2008, it took me until the end of that year before I got a job (which I'm still in) and this was at the height of the last economical crash too.
I had sent out well over 50 CVs to different companies and the response back was all the same: No! But then I was simply in the right place, at the right, met with the right person, and it all fell into place from there. Don't give up. You'll get rewarded for putting in the effort, I believe this fully

I do know a gal who heads up the local Ford dealership and she said she would give me a job any time. Its a good job mind you, but a job. I just might call her when this madness passes.

Sometimes I think god has a plan. One of the jobs i got turned away from was a loan processor. I am not good at numbers nor am I a stickler for detail. I'm a 50,000 foot guy who likes to solve problems and do process improvement.
The other job was a print processor and I have no experience and I am color blind. They told me it was physical and would require me to be contorted in all kinds of positions. I am 5 foot 4 inches tall and weigh 190, I am a former bodybuilder and while I am not fat, I am not easily "contorted". so there's that.
