2 nights

2 nights drinking in the past week! An improvement, lent coming up so will use that to help me.

I seem to be making this harder than it needs to be. Getting to 7 days is proving difficult.

I will keep trying.

That's because you keep drinking.

Yeah, what he said. In order to quit, you have to make a firm commitment to never drink, if you are anything like me. I can't drink at all. Moderation doesn't work.

I did have a drink after work eat a lot and was sick. Not been able to do anything today but recover. I feel very unhappy about it but need to stay positive.

It was this time last year that I managed a good long period of sobriety.

I have done done it once and I will do it again!

Speaking only for myself, cutting back or moderation is a pipe dream. Furthermore, I had no interest in moderation, I know why I drank and it wasn't to moderate.

You know what it takes to quit, and it can be done again.

Umm. You either quit or you don't - cutting down isn't an "improvement" or "positive."

You can't reverse this thing- once you have it, you have it for good.

I decided that long ago! I am a binge drinker as opposed to a daily physically dependant drinker.

Is it more difficult for a regular binge drinker to quit than a daily dependant drinker?

I don't think so.

Maybe you could come up with a recovery plan for when you have a desire to binge again. You could be prepared and hopefully, prevent the binge.

It’s difficult when that sudden impulse hits. Impulsiveness is a huge problem for me and I wonder if I have some degree of brain damage from my years of drinking.

You decided what a long time ago? Not to quit, as Anna suggested.

Alcoholism isn't about how much you drink, how often, what type, whether you only drink at night.

We are all saying the same thing. We either drink, or we don't. If you're an alcoholic like me, which is up to you to decide, then the only good option is "don't."

Yes, you have damage to some extent if you are like most of us and drank heavily for a long time. "Heavily" is generally something we don't think we've done til we get sober and realize what we were actually drinking. We change our brain chemistry as well as damage every organ - including our skin, the biggest one we have. Everything is affected.

All of us have different stuff to face when we quit- and I'm one who's pretty d*mn lucky I not only lived but have a pretty good package deal here at 43.

I wouldn't have another chance in me - and no one gets infinite ones.

You sound to me like you're trying to convince yourself that a cutting back approach is a viable way for you.

Trying to quit by cutting down or moderating was futile for me Stable.

Trying to 'quit' by drinking doesn't work.

I really hope you'll come to accept this soon.

I was trying to stay positive by saying 2 nights in the week and not seven. But those 2 nights have ruined my whole week.

ive tried all sorts of things to stay sober and feel this time the only thing that can work for me is my belief in God.

Something to make me see alcohol in another way other than desire is also necessary!

I'm getting mixed messages here also. Way back in March you made the comment you couldn't moderate. 2 nights a week is trying to moderate.

What can we do to help you make a recovery plan? Are you up to trying AA again? Are you up to trying one of the other methods, such as SMART? Rehab? The worst thing you can do is do nothing.
