Hey Guys,
Just broke up with my girlfriend, she was not able to understand what means to be an alcoholic, whenever i try to explain to her the concept of alcoholism and how it's a powerful drug, even more powerful than a lot of illegal substances, she somehow refuses to accept that concept.
we live in a world where to be an alcoholic, is somehow your fault, because simply you are not mentally strong enough to stop abusing it, and they just ignore the fact that the issue is way more complicated than that and it involves a lot of other aspects.
it's so frustrating.

Without knowing anything else, it sounds like you broke up with your girlfriend because she was not understanding about your drinking and came here just to complain about her and complain that people aren't understanding enough about it in general.
Are you trying to quit? What is your situation?

Hi Amin
Relationship break ups are really hard - I feel for you even if it was your choice. I guess you know that drinking won't fix that hurt or the situation.
Maybe, if you are still in communication, you point her to SR and the link for family support to help her understand - but I guess that depends on your current situation and whether it is worth it or not.
Take care of you and keep posting!

That sucks ☹️
But don't drink over it.
We don't need that kind of judgemental attitude around when we are trying to accomplish what is likely the hardest thing we will ever have to do.
Better things are on the way for a sober you.

I think many of us have faced this situation. I know I have. It's really hard for others to understand alcoholism. I stopped trying to make that happen very early on in my recovery. I think if you just focus on yourself and keep focused on your goal, you'll be fine.
