My favorite band too mate.
The lyrics to 40 pretty much describe how sobriety happened for me.
I waited patiently for the Lord
He inclined and heard my cry
He brought me up out of the pit
Out of the mire and clay
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
How long to sing this song
How long to sing this song
How long, how long, how long
How long, to sing this song
He set my feet upon a rock
And made my footsteps firm
Many will see
Many will see and fear
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
How long to sing this song
How long to sing this song
How long, how long, how long
How long, to sing this song
Get out from under the alcoholic rubble
There is a spirit stronger than alcohol
He's waiting for you to turn to him.

No, I didn't feel confident either at that stage of alcoholism. There isn't much about out of control drinking that inspires confidence. I think confidence is of huge importance, but I only gained it through success. Failure is the exact opposite of confidence.
At about a week of sobriety, I got my first taste of confidence. It came as a dim spark of recognition that I could do this recovery thing, probably that I could do it for life. It got stronger as months and years passed. Confidence grows with success, not failure. And it gets more and more powerful.
We talk about over-confidence. I'm not sure what that is, however. I can't ever remember feeling overconfident. I remember doing a fairly good job at appearing bravado, and recognizing that some people were actually attracted to bravado. But bravado is not confidence. It's shallow and for show. Real confidence feels more private and internal, and it makes bravado unnecessary.
I can almost promise you that confidence comes with sobriety, and I can almost promise that it only comes with sobriety.

^^^Love that.
I heard someone say in a meeting yesterday:
"I don't live thinking about being an alcoholic anymore. I do what I do and it's my life now. I do know that my disease is in remission, like my sponsor who got cancer 2 yr in and it went in remission. His came back 25 yrs later. My alcoholism would come back if I stop living as a recovered person."
To me that's a great description of being confident- I'm recovered - yet not over-confident.

I have a detailed plan. For confidentiality/anonymity reasons I have no intention of sharing it in a semi-public forum. But essentially, a modified/updated version of this:

Actually I was on this forum back in 2010, and lost my username as I no longer use the email address associated with that user name. I've had multiple periods of sobriety and relapsing. I never made the full year but made it to 9 months in 2018/2019.

Yeah I think it's back to rehab with me tbh. Like's it's 11pm in Ireland and I have 8 more cans of cider, and frankly I'm going to drink them. I'm realistic enough, just about, to realise that these are not the actions of a man that is quite ready to stop cold turkey.
Ok so if I'm not on the forum in the next few weeks, I'm most likely in rehab. Thanks for all the help in the past, present and future.

Just a thought from a newby that did day 1 yesterday - it is late where you are. Why not leave the ciders and hit bed for the evening instead?
It will be much better for your rehab if you restrain from the binge beforehand.
Take care of yourself and think about a good night sleep and waking up better than you would if you drank them.
