Nine months sober

It definitely gets easier! I don't think about drinking much anymore but I do know not to get complacent too. If you're new, post on here every day and try to get to as many different in-person meetings/groups as possible (AA, SMART, Refuge Recovery/Recovery Dharma, etc.) You'll find people in a similar boat, make new friends and perhaps find something that works for you. Plus it just makes the whole recovery process feel more real.

As for me I move into my halfway house today. I won't have Wi-Fi at first so I won't be quite so active for a bit I imagine. But yeah, happy to have finally made it to moving day. Had I not gotten sober I would have had no choice but to leave this city I love.

The journey continues...

Congrats on 9 months. I always enjoy reading from people who have been sober a while. Gives us all hope.

I'm really delighted for you, Tetrax! You have such an admirably stoic and placid nature.

Nice going. Congratulations!

Big congrats Tet. The easier part is so true, though of course we must stay vigilant. But the relief that comes from getting clear of the obsessive drinking thoughts is a terrific part of the process. It's something to reflect back on and be grateful for the further sober we get - so thank you for the reminder.

That's excellent Tetrax, hats off to you for 9 months.

Good luck in the halfway house. I did a double take when I first read that as there is a pub not very far from me called the Halfway House. Yours is much better.

Congrats on 9 months! I'm at 20 days. When I first decided I was quitting, I told my wife and promised myself, I will quit alcohol for one year and then re-evaluate the issue.

For some reason, quitting forever sounded impossible, but one year sounded doable. Strange how we think, but the one years goal is working for me so far.

Do I think I could quit for a year and then just go back to drinking the way my wife does, a glass of wine 2-3 times a month? No way. I'm just going to get through this year and then decide I don't need it after making it that far!
