30 days

Today marks 30 days sober. Unfortunately, I’m laid up in bed with the flu but hey, it beats a hangover any day. At least this isn’t self inflicted. Have a good day everyone!

Congrats, Vinny (on the 30-Day part, not the flu lol), hangin' in there without the hangover.

Today is my Day 15. (One Vinny = two jr67s.)

I could definitely get used to this no-hangover thing. It's happening already, can't wait to see how I feel on Day 30. Well, as a matter of fact I can wait (seeing as how I don't have a choice), but I'll get there.

Good on ya, Vinny!!!
It keeps getting better.
Get well soon, man.

And congratulations on a half-Vinny, jr. :)

Congrats Vinny! 30 days is a huge milestone. Sorry you have the flu. It's awful. Did you get tamiflu? It really helped my wife but you have to take it within 48 hrs of the onset of symptoms. Also if you have a wet cough that persists definitely get a chest x-ray.

One benefit of sobriety has been that I get sick far less often and when I do it's not as extreme and I recover more quickly.

And it's astonishing how even a bad virus feels less severe than a typical hangover. Before, the effects of a bug were combined with a hangover to create a truly wicked and devastating combination of miserable symptoms.

The no hangover thing is weird for me. I am more tired when I wake up sober than when I was drinking. I know this is due to me actually getting good sleep and waking up as a normal human. When I was drinking, I never entered a deep sleep therefore it wasn’t difficult to wake up. I just felt like crap all day. Now I’m groggy for 10 minutes and nothing a cup of coffee can’t fix. Feels good to be a functioning adult again :)

Congrats on 15 days! I know it’s not easy getting to that day.

Thanks! Unfortunately (and fortunately), I am in the middle/end of my symptoms so no drugs for me. Already feeling better. The mornings and nights are the worst. And my cough is purely dry. I got it from my son but thankfully he is now over it. This is nothing compared to withdrawals :)

Congratulations on a month! And sorry about the flu.

I remember how great it felt to get to that point. I was still pretty sad and depressed at 30 days, but physically I felt great and I was feeling less down every day. Getting that first 30 day AA coin was a really big deal. Keep it going!

That is awesome Vinny. I am living in Day 57 here and feel like we are classmates. Let's keep trucking down this sober road together.

I’m in it for the long haul if you are! Congrats on 57. I’ll get there!

Holy $hy+ am I ever in it for the long haul!!!! I have put such a high price on my health, my clear head, my quiet mind and my healing body, that I cannot ever imagine drinking again. But I remain vigilant. My nag-headed AV is as loud as anyone else's. I bench pressed 275 pounds last night for the first time in over 30 years, and what does my dumb@ss AV suggest?? Let's celebrate with a drink!!!!! FML!!! LOL!!! We're in it to win it Vinny.

That's awesome, congrats! I have never made it 30 days within the past two years of trying to quit, 14 days and then I slip back. My goal is 30! Day 3 today, been down this road so many times, I don't even want to count days anymore, but I will and I'll get there, determined....

DaisyBelle7 01-16-2020 08:41 AM

Congratulations!! I look forward to my 30 days. It’s an inspiration seeing others hit their milestones. I hope you feel better soon!

Congratulations Vinny. It's great to get to 30 days. Hope you recover from the flu quickly.

Sober45 01-16-2020 11:29 AM

Congratulations! I'm on day 16 and I can totally relate to the sleep thing. Getting up in the morning is so hard now but yes, it's because I'm sleeping so deeply. Cup of coffee and I'm good to go!

HeadEast 01-16-2020 12:35 PM
