21st birthday party
Went to my best friends daughter’s birthday party yesterday.
Lots of of old friends and acquaintances were there.
A good friend of mine made an appearance for an hour, he’s just gone a year sober. So he left after an hour.
I stayed the distance which is the first time for me at a boozy party.
Well out of my comfort zone.
Going to take a while to process all the drunken chaos.
The birthday girls mum was falling over drunk every 5mins. Nearly fell into the fire pit.
While we were singing happy birthday and birthday girl was cutting the cake mum was upstairs throwing up in the toilet with her sister in law looking after her.
Dad was doing something somewhere else in the garden and missed it.
I’m shocked and saddened at the stark reality of it.
Keep having flashbacks of things that where said and done.
It’s a lot to handle when the next right thing to do was to go after an hour. I just wanted to stay for the cake cut and sing happy birthday to my best friends daughter.
Needed to get this off my chest.
Thanks for being here SR

Hi
I remember going to a friends baby's 1st birthday.
The mum couldn't get out of bed for the next 3 days as she was so hungover.
It made me really, really sad that alcohol was the main focus in a child's 1st birthday party.
I'm celebrating 8 years sober in Feb 2020.
I remember someone saying the following below to me.
There are many times I have regretted choosing to drink. I have never regretted choosing to not drink.
It really struck true with me.
There were so many times I had no recollection of a party.
I also had the most awful anxiety that I had done or said something awful.
In the UK sadly it seems that a good time cannot not be had without a massive drink.
I have really low tolerance now for drunken people.
I also have an escape plan so I can leave drunken parties.
If anyone persuades me to stay at an event, I say Im just nipping to the toilet, then leave.
They never remember in the morning.
I'm glad you found us.
I wish you the best xx
