Sober Muscles .. a thread
I'm remembering this off memory so bare that in mind as I butcher it .. D we need a 2020 remix
When you first start weightlifting you don't start off with the max weights possible for obvious reasons. Recovery is like this.
But slowly with small steps and milestones all the hard work will start to show
I've completely butchered this but the point is sober muscles are super legit and building them takes time just like weightlifting
I'm shocked at how bad Ive butchered this
Wishing you all the best in 2020 stay sober stay with us at SR

I often talk about sober muscles.
No one starts lifting weights at 300 pounds. You work up to it.
I put a lot of thought into the invites I accepted and the things I did.
I avoided things I knew would involve mass consumption of alcohol - in fact I avoided events with alcohol at all, for a while
I didn't stay home and mope tho.
I wet to museums and art galleries, I went to cafes, I went on walks and picnics, I got back into hobbies.
I hung out with friends who would no sooner drink at lunch than rob a bank.
Slowly and surely I built up sober muscles - and when I knew I could go anywhere and not let anything or anyone sway me to drink...I knew I was ready for that big 300 pound lift,
Probably took me 6 months of judicious socialising to get to that surety - might take you shorter or longer, but you'll know

Good morning. Yeah if you look at some of my post to other folks I mention lets get them sober muscles in shape. Think about it. I'm sure. 241 days ago I couldnt lift an egg . but I could sure find the strength to do 12 oz curls. Fast forward and now its like come on with it life. Lol. But Keep in mind that you have to maintain them muscles keep them in shape. ✌
I decided to give this a bump cos I've seen posts where people seem to think putting yourself in 'wet', risky or difficult situations is the way to develop sober muscles.
It's not - noone lifts 300 pounds first try

I did this every previous quit. This go, I waited on diet and other than hiking, didnt add a regular hard cardio routine until later in sobriety. Getting through year one with all occasions, anniversaries, holidays has made year two so far a lot easier. Sober muscles indeed!

I really like this too.
I think it applies in lots of ways. I was just thinking today about how much better I cope with anxiety/social anxiety now I have managed to get more sober time this year. I think sober muscles build muscles in lots of different areas of life....

You didn't butcher it Soberwolf. It was the idea we needed. Dee followed through. Taking it slowly is really good advice. You get to enjoy it more.
Tried to build my physical muscles by going to local pool do Power Aquarobics. I developed hypothermia, and had to get taken to hospital in a space suit. Wearing a wet suit next time, and will pull back on the POWER part if it. Build up slowly.
