My stubbornness - I'm determined to prove the doubters wrong. I also never want to feel spiders all over me and see scary things during withdrawal again. I'm also excited for 2020, a new year to start running and look for a job!
I want to live sober to see:
-sunshine glistening off new fallen snow looking like sparkling diamonds...it's actually BETTER than diamonds.
I want to live sober to:
-reach out and help even one person....if I can do that it's all worth it. Even if it's only one....
I want to live sober to feel:
-my best
I'm motivated by:
music, , creative things, art, healthy living, good sleep, oh, and let's not forget: *money* (haha)
No, seriously: One thing that motivates me the most is just wanting to be the best version of myself I can be and in order to do that I must be sober.

- daughter
- everyone else
- pets
- me - how I feel day to day
I couldn't help but notice someone else said "stubbornness". Made me laugh but so true!
I have a deep sense of yearning to really be HERE.
I am motivated by not wanting to die.

The point of this thread is not what motivates you to be sober.. I'm talking about what motivates you now your in recovery ?
This isn't about staying sober I think we all agree that is a personal goal of everyone already I'm talking about what motivates you what gets you out of the bed in the morning to do...

Even for those with long term sobriety can lose
motivation or focus to remain sober. Staying connected
to my recovery lifelines and continuing to incorporate
on a daily bases the recovery tools and an effective
guideline taught to me some 29 yrs ago helps me to
keep what's most important in my life at the top of
my lifes list.
Moving forward and not backwards is a good reminder
and motivator.
Help others. Service work. Sharing your ESH experiences,
strengths and hopes with another struggling with addiction.
Take care of ones self and not be selfish. Be kind, caring,
understanding, courteous to each other.
Working in my backyard with flowers and plants,
feeding my birds, communing with nature, stopping
to smell the Roses as we often hear, slowing down
to appreciate and be grateful for lifes wonderful
gifts.
To cherish them and not take one moment for
granted. So many things come and go and yet
we have one life to take care of. Don't waste it
or throw it away.
Addiction is relentless and never rest. Yet, we
can put it to rest by applying a recovery program,
a way of life that will help each one reach many
of lifes goals by remaining motivated in our purpose
in achieving a healthy, happy, honest way of life.

That guy pushing that big boulder up the hill.
He gets it there and then rolls it down...…
Me, I would have pushed it up the hills just like
him, then get it to the top, leave it here and then.....
Go back down where more boulders are waiting
for me, grab another one and be prepared to do
the footwork and begin the day, step by step, to
get it up the hill and set it side by side with the
others once they have arrived safe and sound.
Like today, we cleared an area on the backside
of our home where we wanted to place good size
square pavers side by side to fill an area to avoid
riding the lawn mower in that awkward spot.
Were it would take 2 people holding it and walking
it to its spot, I grabbed both sides carefully and lifted
it using the strength in my arms, stomach and legs,
climbing 2 small steps then to the designated area
by myself. Slowly but surely to not hurt myself.
All went well, except, I may have strained my lower
back a tad when I lifted one of my legs to climb the
step.
Not bad, but a few days relaxing then I should be
good to go for more pavers.
Getr done...!!!!

School has been motivational to me, and without sobriety I would never be achieving my goal of getting a college degree. I start my 4th semester in two weeks--with a 3.7 GPA, I am on the school's honors list, and a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. After getting my AA I plan on continuing towards a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. I am 59 years old and just celebrated my 4th year of sobriety--it is never too late to be motivated to seek your dreams, but if I'd still been drinking, unfulfilled dreams they would've remained. Wishing everyone a wonderful, motivated, sober New Year.
