What you talk about is a common experience. However happiness is not something that can be forced but rather comes internally from peace of mind in my experience. The reason AA talks about a spiritual awakening and psychic change is for exactly the reasons you describe; so that life becomes whole and wonderful without needing anything external to “Fix” oneself. This takes time and a faith in the recovery process. The 12 steps and the program of AA are a route to achieving this psychic change.

If I can survive this holiday season without hating everyone and everything and somehow manage to get through New Year’s Eve juicing with apple cider, then I hope to make it 4 months.... Hopefully by then I will start to truly understand why i want to stay sober.
Hope is good but I think it takes a little action too?

what about thinking about an action plan - changes you'll make (not just filling in time, but how you'll deal with the desire to drink) & finding support and using it when you need to?
