Spoil Yourself Weekend - Weekenders 22 - 25 November 2019

Welcome to the Weekenders

We can be our worst critics, hard on ourselves.

So this weekend let’s take time to spoil ourselves a little.

A long soak in a bubble bath

A walk on the beach, listening to the waves lapping on the seashore.

A special meal with family and friends

A trip to the cinema.

Reading a good book.

Being kind to yourself, recharge your batteries for the weeks ahead.

Preparations on the run up for Thanksgiving and Christmas can be rather hectic. Being prepared can help cut down on any stress and in turn stomp any temptation to pick up.

Keep your batteries charged to be ready for anything.

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!)

I like the keeping batteries charged- to me that means my 'recovery' battery needs to be charged every day- with daily support- here, friends, meetings, professionals.

Thanks Mags

I'm in for weekend number three.

Mags, this will be a nice weekend to recharge. As you stated the holidays can be very hectic.

Thanks Mags, I think I spoil myself quite a bit with the ukulele 'hobby' (Obsession) and now a workshop to play in. Last night I signed up for the winter session of advanced ukulele lessons.

PS. none of which would be possible without sobriety.

Thanks, Mags. I'm in.

I'll have to think about the spoiling thing. My batteries are pretty low these days.

I don't make much of a fuss about holidays - my kids are no longer little, the family is small, and we never were much for going over the top about holidays anyway. We do really enjoy Thanksgiving, as it's one of the few times we are all actually together. Christmas gets more complicated, with kids having to split between mom and dad. For some reason, Thanksgiving has always been mine - my kids don't do stuff with their dads' families, generally. My daughter is hosting her first family Thanksgiving this year - she and her beau bought a house this year, so she has the space now and the energy, being only 28.
She's freaking out a little, but she's going to gets tons of help from me and my mom so she really needn't worry.

Yes, I will have to carve out some time this weekend to take care of myself a little. I am so tired. Just bone tired.

IN!

Thanks for a timely OP Mags

Whoever you are, wherever you are and wherever you are, do yourself a huge favour
- pamper your internal organs. pamper your wallet, pamper your career and prospects and pamper your relationships by quitting booze. All of the above was damaged to a greater or lesser extent by my regular intoxication. There was virtually no upside.

Here's Rose Royce aka Gwen Dicky being nearly but thanks to her great voice not quite, outshone by a hat.

Sao, I love Rose Royce, Chaka Khan mostly. I remember that old movie, The Carwash. Super silly, but funny and a great music tract by Rose Royce. I was pretty young, but I remember them fondly. Thx. ♥

IN!

When I first read it I thought the title of the thread was "Soil Yourself Weekend".
I thought - been there, done that! I'm looking for something else now!

I will feel good and spoiled if my Buckeyes beat those pesky Nittany Lions on Saturday.

Keep it sober, y'all!

Thanks for the thread Mags. Bit cold for the beach in the UK just now, think I will opt for the bubble bath.

I have just picked my beloved car up from the garage, where it was getting new tires and brakes. Money well spent - the brakes were overdue, and as we head into another brutal winter, it feels good to have fresh tread on the road. Safety!

Hi weekenders

I’ve been MIA for a while...... strayed from SR and fell off the wagon. But I’m back on now and more determined this time.
Day 9. Onwards and upwards as they say, one day at a time, and this time I’m planning on making it stick.

I’ll go for the walk on the beach thanks Mags, it’s beautiful hot sunny weather here at the moment, perfect beach weather

Have a great weekend everyone

Great to see you Willow! Your were missed. Congratulations on 9 days. You can use the relapse to identify ways to make you stronger this time.

I hope VMan posts soon too.

Thanks Sao, nice to see you too
Yes I’ve learned a few more lessons. Namely, that just one or two drinks isn’t a reality. Of course I knew that intellectually, but now I know it experientially too. It just doesn’t work for me. Alcohol is not a party drink for me anymore, it had become an all consuming beast. So it just has to go. For good.

I did some yoga this morning, now for a walk on the beach....

Cya later weekenders

Wonderful thread, I love the frog picture that's me this weekend.

This will be my first Thanksgiving/Christmas without drinking in probably 14 years, I know for a fact because I've already made the choice.
