I finally did it .

I forced myself to get over my fear and anxiety and go get blood and lab work done. I’m on day 8 sober and I’m terrified to find out what damage I have done to my body. I’ve been a alcoholic for 6 years and I have severe medical anxiety. Now it’s just a waiting game for 48 hours to get my results

I've known many many people who drank far far longer and had good labs.

Great job on 8 days!

That is great you have 8 days sober and you are taking care of yourself.
The body is very resilient , I am sure with the advice of your DR. and self care
you will be healthy again. Please post here for support. I drank alot longer than you and my blood work was fine.

ELF - I was positive I was going to have terrible results - I drank 30 yrs. In the end it was all day. My blood work was ok.

Congrats on 8 days sober - and for facing up to the lab work. Let us know how it goes.

Try not to worry so much about the results. Worrying won't change anything except to stress you out.

Thank you for the responses. I’ve actually been diagnosed with medical anxiety and it seems I ALWAYS fear for the worse possible results. The day I quit drinking my blood pressure was so high and Of course after a quick consult with google I was convinced I was going to die.. which in turn probably made my blood pressure much worse. I’m glad I posted because hearing these personal stories makes me feel less scared.

ELF- I avoided getting bloods done for years- in case it showed liver damage from my boozing and that would mean I would have to recognize I had a big problem.
Since my real rock bottom- I even make sure I do the prostate blood test (being over 50) and the bowel cancer screening when needed- as well as other stuff in tests to keep me living the best life I can. Aforewarned- means I can plan and make proactive decisions.

Well done.

Support to you.

You're doing the right things to take care of yourself, so be proud of yourself for having stopped drinking and having gone to the doctor.

ELF - REally glad you did it. It was terrifying when I final had everything done and I just knew I had to see whatever the reality was if I had a real to deal with it.

Whatever comes back - especially if you get a kind of "it's all fine," remember that we can' keep beating our bodies and livers up forever. If you stop drinking now and do everything you can to be healthy, that's the path to your best life.

Glad you are here.

I think you'll be fine. The human body can take an enormous amount of abuse and still function. I drank for decades, and drank alcoholically for two or three years and my lab results have been fine.
