1 Year Sober as of MIDNIGHT east coast time!
I made it to 1 year. Wow. Now to accept my Oscar. I just want to say thank you to everyone who has helped me so much on here over the years in my intermittent posting. (While active and in denial to in recovery)
I have no idea why, but I feel like this is one of the most important things I have ever done in my life. What did I do? All I did was not drink. Big deal. But it feels monumental - like the day I graduated high school or college.
To anyone new - here’s what I did and my honest advice of what to do:
-Got a sponsor who I knew I couldn’t manipulate and who could see through my BS
-Went to a meeting almost every day for 1 year (absolutely 1 or even 2 meetings in the first 90 days NO EXCEPTIONS. 90 in 90 Days.)
-Called at least one alcoholic every day to talk. This helps immensely especially when you’re isolated or stuck inside your headspace.
-This is a 12 Step Program. You can attend meetings, but the recovery is in the steps and doing the work.
Now is Day 1 of my 2nd year and I don’t know what to expect. I’m going to bed now and will wake up tomorrow in my 2nd year. I hope the future holds good things for me...

Congrats on the first of many sober years! 
That is a big deal! 
I remember when I hit my first year - I was tickled pink cause I had failed so many times and felt hopeless.

This is wonderful to hear. One year is big and worth celebrating. Best place to celebrate is to go to yet another meeting, pick up a coin, and share with friends. And while a year is big, your attitude is even bigger. You had a plan and can recognize and appreciate just how vital that plan was. What you now have is more than just a year. You know what it takes to be sober. And better still is that you recognize what a good place you are now in. The one year chip is just a symbol for something that is actually much bigger. Hell, I'm even inspired by this. Good job.
