I did not die, and I alive remained not; (Dante)

This describes my active alcoholism and the feelings I feel while withdrawing.

I was actually romanticizing a drink today. After this disease has me by the throat. I thought two glasses of chardonnay and then I can start again tomorrow. I *only* have 11 days. I can still set my sobriety date again before Thanksgiving...blah blah blah Transported myself right to the bar/atmosphere I craved. (yeah right) I contemplated it which scares me.

I ended up going to the Dr's since it has been over a year.
Then I went to a meeting. Just made a nice dinner of baked ziti.

I can not get to confident and this is such a minute by minute battle for me.

Thank you for all the support- This board was in my minds eye when I got through this craving.

Lookit you being a success and a miracle.

Never mind those thoughts. They're normal. You decide.

You decided to go to the doctor, to go to a meeting, to bake some ziti and to post here. Good decisions.

This is how we do it.

Thank you both! Obladi you are correct these thoughts are normal. I am so very glad I did not act on them. I do need to feel them and decide. I will remember that ....*you decide* Yeah me for today.
Harriet the baked Ziti was filling.- cooking really takes my mind off my worries.
Bizarre I do not like to bake just cook-

Thank you both for checking in. I really had a close call. It actually feels good to accomplish the Dr's and get some spiritual medicine today.

Thank you

Well done Faith.

Don't forget the Serenity Prayer. When I first got sober, every time I thought of taking a drink (which was alot) I used the Serenity Prayer.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change:
I cannot change the fact that I am an alcoholic and that I cannot drink moderately or safely.

The courage to change the things I can:
I can change my attitude, I can be grateful to have found out what is wrong with me and that I can get well. That there is a solution. I can change where I go and who with. I can log onto Sr or go to an AA meeting. Anything but drink.

The wisdom to know the difference. !!!

Well done on all you’ve achieved both today and over the past year - an inspiration to those of us following behind.
