Trick Or Treat?
This could be how I used to see our AV.

Once upon a time I thought of drinking as a treat,
Looking after me with a drink after a hard day, or a drink after a good day.

Then my AV got greedy, wouldn’t stop. One drink wasn’t enough anymore and yet again the sly AV had Tricked me into a Treat, but didn’t know when to stop.

If you’re celebrating Halloween tonight or the weekend, take care not to fall for the Trick And Treating AV (Addictive Voice).

Shotgun!

saoutchik 10-31-2019 02:29 AM

Thanks for the new thread Mags, I've had time to read it now after diving in sharp to get shotgun. It's a very good point you make, for lots of us (I suspect) a drink or two starts out as a social thing and a reliever of stress but over time it turns into something anti-social and that adds greatly to the amount of pressure we face in our daily lives. It did for me anyways.

Good luck with the electricians Mags

Let's get in the seasonal groove with Don't Fear the Reaper.

Saou, nice one on Shotgun! I love that song, never knew what it was called though. Now I have Shazam I can get the info on any music I like that comes on radio and tv. :)

Not cur electric off yet. He’s doing something else in the garage first. But I can go boil kettle in village hall if need be:)

Catch you later. :)

Happy Halloween Y'all!
We hang with the neighbors and hand out candy all evening. Good times!

And then:

I'm in!! I wish I had a house so I could pass out candy. :(

but this weekend is just more zoo and chilling. I have another show I'm going to go see - The Eric Andre show. We've watched that show for years and it has chaotic energy. Should be a great time.

Have a great Thursday everyone. :)

Wow, nearly November already ! No tricks from the AV this weekend , only treats, non alcoholic ones :Witch7:

I'm in for another sober weekend. Cross country districts on Saturday will be the biggest deal for much family.
Half day for my kids today and off tomorrow. I am excited to have them home for a long weekend. Happy to do it sober and remember every detail come Monday morning.

Great intro Mags! Thanks! :)

I'm in!

No handing out candy for us tonight. I have to be at work to watch a play. I work for a university in the Theatre and Film department and the final dress of our first play of the year, Robin Hood, is tonight. I love watching the plays but I also run the box office so it's hard for me to see one during the regular run, so I have to come for the final dress.

That's ok. I used to love handing out the candy, but my son no longer wishes to help, and we live on a very busy street for trick-or-treating, so it's a lot of work and disruption and the dog hates it. He gets really worked up and anxious. Maybe next year I'll do it again. Don't know.

Decorating the front yard for Halloween, my favorite thing to do. Will post some pics on the sober bus thread later.

Dear Daughter starts group therapy today, a weekly event for next while. I think she's excited about it. (I hear her singing in the shower).

Finding a excuse to treat myself to a drink was never a problem. Who knew the real treat lies in not drinking at all?

Fusion 10-31-2019 07:16 AM

Great thread opener, Mags!

Kaily 10-31-2019 10:25 AM

Trick or treat. I guess drinking is an illusion that it is a treat, at least for those of us burdened with not having a stop button. Drinking to blackout, waking up with no memory of the night before, head banging, clothes ripped, money lost, reputation in taters is no treat.

A good reminder. Thanks for the thread Mags.

I had to go to outpatients this afternoon for my post hernia check-up (all fine) and after that I had a rarish chance to see my grandaughters in their Halloween costumes (witches)

saoutchik 10-31-2019 11:12 AM

A goth and therefore Halloween classic from The Cult. Slightly annoyingly the former Mrs Sao used to be very fond of singer Ian Astbury, hey ho.

I’m in for the weekend! Once I make it through I’ll be at Day 30 (Monday)!!! :dance1a:

MidnightBlue 10-31-2019 12:05 PM

Hi, weekenders.

I am in.

Just back from the dentist after an intense day at work, so tired.

Have great Halloween and see you.

Congrats on shotgun, Sao!

andyh 10-31-2019 12:25 PM

thanks Mags, I'm in.

I'm getting my usual "seasonal" twitches for the time of year at the moment when my AV floats the idea of a nice glass of something to ward off the dark & cold. whilst it might, briefly, be a treat, then I know for sure there's a an almightly trick following close behind. :irked: & I rather like my life these days, so why would I want to do anything stupid like that?

anyway, to continue the spooky theme:

harriet11 10-31-2019 02:29 PM

That's quite a disturbing picture Kaily ! :omfg:

Sao, you're a grandparent!!! You don't look old enough on that photo. I think I'll dress up as Alice cooper, maybe it will take years off me.

STDragon, no one round here decorates their houses for Halloween. What a good idea. Maybe next year I'll try it.

SnoozyQ 10-31-2019 03:27 PM

Hi everyone :wavey:

Love the AV Saou

We dont really celebrate Halloween in Australia, but have fun to those of you who do. Xx

I had a bad day yesterday, felt really down and couldnt get it together, im ok this morning though . Claires funeral is 4 pm Monday. The week before a funeral is emotionally exhausting.

On a happier note , Its our Wedding Anniversary today .:grouphug:
Shaun and I have been married for 12 years

Have a great weekend everyone

Sending you all much love xx

My Av is Claire on the right & and me
