548 days sober

Today is my 548th day without a sip of alcohol.

18 whole months.

I can't quite believe it myself but I am beyond grateful to have been given this 2nd chance at life and to live it free from the chains of alcohol.

Has it been easy? Hell no!

Has it been worth it? Hell yes!!!

I have complete acceptance today of what I am. I am an alcoholic. I know a lot of people hate that word. I do too. However in terms of my drinking , that is what I am. I have a physical allergy to alcohol which means if I put any alcohol into my system then I set off the phenomenan of craving and I will just want more and more. There is no beating that. Believe me I have tried Haha. I also suffer with the mental obsession which I treat by doing the 12 steps of AA, practicing gratitude, being kind and helpful to others and building a life I love that I do not want to escape from (thanks Dee!!)

I can honestly, hand on heart, say today that I do not want to drink alcohol. It has taken me a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get to that point I can tell you, but I really feel that way today and for this alcoholic that is a miracle!

I would like to thank the admins of this forum for doing a great job so people like us have somewhere safe to post 24 hours around the clock, all the members who share their experience, strengths and hope's and especially my lovely April's 2018, Daisybelle, Viper, Erratic, Nichole, Kgirl and Blusey for being a constant source of support and also putting up with me when I have been full of self pity lol.

Please , if you are struggling, there is Hope. You are going to feel very uncomfortable at times, you may feel like crawling out of your own skin, I know I did,but I promise you it does get easier and it does get better. Just make sure that the most important thing you do today is not pick up a drink and get your head on your pillow sober.

🙏❤🙏❤

Hello and congrats. You were on point with alot of what you said. Hey I too am on this journey my friend. Getting close to the 6 month mark. This is by far the best choice I have made. With help from a power greater than me. I am still learning on a daily basis. Life is good. And gosh I remember the day I threw the towel in like it was yesterday. Sick.shaking.disgusted with myself. But once you pull the trigger and start taking action. Its cool you get to see and feel the labor you put into it. My only regret is that I should of done this a loooong time ago. But hey can't cry over spilt milk just try not to spill it anymore. ✌

And thanks for that one, I needed it today:

Thanks for this post. It's good to see the successes. I'm grateful for this place too. It was here when I felt so low and scared. So grateful.
