Welcome to the family Polly. We have members all over the world. I've made so many friends here. And one member who just happens to live in my state, gave me a little cat five years ago - my Lily. So yes, good things happen on here.
SR also helped me get and stay sober. This December I'll have 10 yrs sober, and a huge part of the credit goes to the members here.

Welcome Polly. Irish heritage, but an Aussie. Scope the different threads in the Newcomer's forum. A good place to start might be joining the Class of October 2019 group. I joined the Class of March '16 group, where I post most days- and learn and consider the people there as friends.
