I know that ultimately I have to figure out a lot of the underlying issues I have. That's very difficult to do. But I will be here and I will seek resources and try to figure it out.
I found it was impossible to pinpoint my underlying issues when I was drinking, but I did almost automatically after I quit. It's apparently common to try to do it the other way around. Either way, eventually you are going to have to face the dragon and quit. I think doing your meditation and self realization first might be just a way to put off taking the big step.
At any rate, I wish you luck, but you need to change your strategy when you see it's not working. You haven't done that even though it's not working. Change is difficult, especially when it involves an addiction. Be flexible and try something other than occasional binge drinking.
