Day 1

was taken by a sudden urge to go to the casino after 3 days sober.

Drank all night, left the casino 5:30 am having lost all my money.

A lot of panic texting this morning as I was having panic attacks.

Have to return to to work next Tuesday after a month on the sick.

I never thought it would be this difficult to end this relapse and get sober again.

Life really is so miserable for some people. Maybe life is too difficult for people like me which is why I seek relief through allcohollism.

Ashamed with myself and generally feeling down!

Hi Stable,
I don't have any wise words but I just wanted to say that I am sorry you are having such a rubbish time. I am glad you are still here and posting.
Warm wishes
Lucinda

Yeah - I used to think I was too sensitive to live sober - but that was just another BS rationalisation my addiction used to make.

the fact is I never knew how competent capable and resilient I was until I got sober.

I'm glad you're back Stable,. Make this day one stick. Your life really might depend on it.

Absolutely, if ever there was a terrific way to sum up the gifts of being alcohol free then this is it

It sounds like an excellent bottom for you. I believe your bottom can be wherever you decide it is. It sounds like you have incomprehensible demoralization which seems to be really helpful for alcoholics trying to get sober. Maybe you could go to meeting tomorrow and raise your hand as a newcomer I only have 27 days sober but that's what I've been doing.

I'm sorry that you drank, but it does not define you nor what you are capable of doing, which is leading a full, rich and sober life.

Re-dedicate yourself to a sober life, now. Good luck!

After your last all night drinking session at a casino, I asked what you plan on doing differently to avoid it happening again.

You said:

'I really have problems making plans.'

I'm wondering what those problems are? You also asked the forum for advice, which there is a lot of in your threads and other threads. Will you be using that advice to make a plan this time?

I have personally dealt with a lifetime of anxiety disorders. I also have a very stressful home life environment. I use to tell myself that I just could not function without it, that my mental health was too bad, that no one could stay sober in my situation. In reality, becoming sober has cleared my head enough to start to address my mental problems and react in the proper way through the situational ones surrounding me. Alcohol let me check out for a short time, then made me feel all around sick and thus more unable to deal with reality afterward. It takes discipline and I had many tries that resulted in failure before ultimately hitting the point that I knew it just wasn’t working for me. You can do it, hang in there and don’t give up before the good things start to happen. It’s a slow process and we want instant gratification.
