Back after 6 years
I don't know where to start. I hit rock bottom back in 2013 and attended as many meeting as possible sometimes 2-3 a day. I was in a motorcycle accident in 2011 and it was a long recovery from that. I pick up an opioid addiction to add to the alcohol after a 3 year run with pain pills. I was 50 some years old and living in a basement unable to work so I drank and drank. I hit bottom in July 2013 and for the 1st time in my 30 plus years of drinking I had to detox, then was sober for 6 years. I also went into treatment for the pills and still on Subutex 1.5 mg a day. I did not drink through. Next up was the pills and found I still could not function and could not find a job. My state unemployment ran out and was down to $200. My previous girlfriend came back into my life, found a job and was off. I now have the best job of my life until this July while on a short vacation was tempted to have a beer and I did. It only took 3 months to get back to where I was. I am back.

Brave of you to post, bassplayer, and I’m always genuinely upset to hear of relapses. It’s a message to all of us that we’re alcoholics in remission and have to be careful for life. All the very best in your quitting and keep us updated. Thanks for the post 👍

Thanks to all. I am now on day 2 and I’m glad I caught it before it would take all that I worked for over the last 6 years. This disease will get the best of you so lesson learned and never think that even after any period of time sober it will not take long for it to creep up and take your life over again. The sun is up and it’s a new day. I chose to be a sober person today. Again thanks for the kind word of encouragement and support.

It sure is scary. It does not take long and was already starting to drink heavy on my days off. One time a week turned into 4-5 days a week really fast. I dumped all my leftover beer and spirits and will just take it a day at a time. I know it was bad when work was over my thought was to race home to drink. Thanks
Welcome back!
I had over 5 years sober and thought it would be ok to have a beer in a restaurant. Wrong, it was not ok. I struggled for the next year to try and get sober again, it was awful.
This website and AA were the key things that finally got me sober again. I'm approaching 10 years sober in a few months and I remain vigilant so that I don't screw up again.

Well, the good thing is that you recognized the need to come back to sobriety pretty fast.
Six years is a long time, and if you did it once when you were at that state, I am sure you will do it again.
I am ruling for you. Cheer up and there is no way but forward!

Alcohol. Cunning, baffling, powerful.
Congratulations on your 2 weeks. I am so glad you made it back too. Thanks for sharing, it is a good reminder that once an alcoholic always an alcoholic and that sobriety has to be our number one priority.
