Day 18
Thanks, I can’t take anything away from AA those people really helped me when I needed it, it was an English group where I used to live, but after 6 months it wasn’t helping me anymore, I know it helps thousands of people every day, my uncle included his been sober for 30 odd years, so now I will try other things, I suppose it’s a bit like antidepressant tablets, sometimes you have to find the right ones that work for you 👍
For starters, you might want to Google "Rational Recovery Crash Course." That gives you the gist of the thing in just 5 minutes or so.
There is a lengthy (5 thread, I think) discussion of AVRT that you can read by following the first link in this post: https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums...ml#post6851490 (AVRT Explained (long))
If you find yourself interested, you can also pick up "Rational Recovery: The New Cure for Substance Addiction" by Jack Trimpey. At the time he wrote it (and perhaps still today), Trimpey was very anti-recovery support, particularly AA. I don't see things quite as starkly as he does, but the "meat" of the book has provided some powerful insights for me.
Happy reading!

Good luck with your chosen method. I've personally always gravitated to 12 step fellowships but I've always believed that recovery, like our drug and alcohol use, is very much a 'horses for courses' affair. You find out what works for you, take it by both hands and crack on with it.
