The looking glass

Recovery brings clarity and understanding on so many levels. I was at a boozy lunch today as the designated driver. On a question of whether I have cravings at occasions like this I could honestly reply no. What I do often get though is the feeling that I wish I was not there. I shared this with the group of good friends. One friend replied that she could understand that, I just do not how to socialise sober. That was so true. On reflection I realised that I basically never socialised without alcohol being present in some or other form in my entire adult life. What a scary concept. I am so glad I can now say been there, done that, got the tee-shirt and now I am doing something else.

Yeah it’s a way of life that I’m truly grateful to have left behind.

I have zero interest in being around alcohol and people drinking as I’ve left that life behind. I appreciate all of the little things in life so much now.

It is like learning again learning to socialise without an anxiolytic drug in your system (alcohol) so you have to feel the natural edginess, anxiety, nerves involved in social situations. You get used to it though and can be your true authentic self.

Very well put. You really dont need booze to enjoy life. I have 92 days proof of it. 😃 keep coming back

Very cool....that is the best feeling..being ok to be the designated driver...etc..you sound like you really are done....Its the best feeling.
Perfect post :)

I have no desire to go to boozy events either. On the occasions that I must attend, I always leave early and have multiple escape plans ready to use. The boozy life doesn’t entice me anymore. I think that means we have made progress from our pasts.

Hi Callas :)

Boozy lunches are not my scene these days either, but outside of that, socialising is a skill like anything else and gets better with practice.

That being said, I know my limits and I'm now as good at it as I'm ever going to be :)
