Michigan help

....need some good AA meeting places or people who live in lower michigan...west side metro detroit. I am in my early 30's and I need to go to meetings that are busier and a little bit more of my style rather than a church basement with a handful of elders smoking. If anyone has any ideas let me know...please. I have looked through the list but i dont know which ones are which.

thanks

don't give up

this meeting thing is not a science. you have to just try , try , try. it took me awhile to hook up with a good group. just keep on going. you will find the most recovery in the weirdest places. let me know how it goes. big ups to D-town!

So true, Darkstar. I've found my way to some pretty funky looking meetings only to find once again that we're all addicts. Safety and comfort, however, are individual so here's a tip Partygirl: meetings tend to reflect the area they are held in. If you want a more upscale, youthful crowd then go to meetings in neighborhoods where that crowd lives and there they'll be. If there are no meetings like that in your area then you may have to go further out. Hope that helps.

Some good places to start, and talk with folks to find some others.

Welcome to SR!

XPartyGirl,

My home group and the place where I first discovered myself is in Redford at the Grand River and 7 mile. Of course it is in a church basement and there are smoking elders (Jah Bless them) but there are also a fair number of younger people too. It meets every Monday at 8pm, Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 7:30pm. Funny, I've been going for two years and I'm the freaking secretary but I just drew a complete blank on the name of the church.

Here's an online resource for finding meetings in our area:

http://www.aa-semi.org/districts/index.html

(Hmm, my home group not listed, must do something about that...)

I've been to:

Wednesday 8:00 PM
Livonia Search For Serenity Group
Unity Church Of Livonia
28660 5 Mile Road
Livonia MI 48154

and it's a good mix of ages with no smoking at all. If you don't mind driving a bit

Wednesday 8:00 PM
Recover Or Die Group
Temple Shir Shalom
3999 Walnut Lake Road Upstairs
West Bloomfield MI 48323

is a great meeting with an especially great name and

Friday 8:30 PM
Steps To Serenity Group
Holy Spirit Lutheran Church
4880 Orchard Lake Road
West Bloomfield MI 48323

is where you find me every Friday night. This is a very small group but the level of sobriety is very high and we use a unique (to me at least) method where we discuss several of the steps at once so that we get through all twelve each month.

I hope this helps.

One Love, One Heart, Jah Bless
