Day 3

I slipped four days ago and am now on Day 3. I have made the following changes to my plan: I picked up a commitment at a meeting on Sundays as a greeter, and I have given up caffeine. I think I struggle with anxiety and the caffeine was making it worse which was a trigger to drink and relax. Iím excited about my commitment as I think it shows through action that I am surrendering and committing to the AA program.

Posting day 5 or day 3 or whatever is helpful, but why not post here when you're struggling FreedomCA?

I agree with August too - taking on a commitment as a greeter and giving up coffee is great - but it's probably not enough in itself to keep you sober.

My advice is to think more broadly than you ever have before. This is your chance to make lasting changes - dream big - go bold

D

Its so hard but i have looked at your past posts and you just keep trying..one of these times it will stick...never give up trying.

I was trying for the past 2 years...and like you...I really wanted to stop but couldn't STAY stopped...programs help but for me it is really about the mind, body and soul REALLY being sick enough to acquire a healthy fear of what alcohol is doing to your mind, body and soul....and to be ready for battle against this crazy addiction ..no matter what it takes.

Some people can put down the drink and never drink again and some people can not...I was one that could not...But I never gave up...Good to see you here.

My theory is . its all or nothing. Drink or not drink. Cant have a clause in the mind thinking let me learn something so perhaps I can booze a different way. If you read around you will see that . that method is garbage . its Always the same result.........one day at a time ......keep coming back.

They made new greeter after my first meeting, I hated it shaking hands , hugs. Welcome, ugh stay away. Tell you what it helped remembered faces and names. I opened up just a little and was on my way. I still do 5 to 7 meetings a week.

My change came when I got involved at the meetings too. I started showing up early to every meeting and making the coffee. Suddenly, I felt responsible for the meetings. Something in me shifted. I hope you feel the same shift. Keep it up!

Thanks for all the replies. I had a mild urge today at the grocery store but didnít buy a bottle of wine. Who knows? Maybe avoiding my daily 1-2 Rock Star energy drinks which ended up giving me anxiety helped me in not picking up. Or maybe because I felt a responsibility to my commitment on Sunday helped me not pick up. But it still took some effort since I really did want the bottle.

As for the the rest of my plan? Go to as many meetings as possible in the next 86 days and be open to finding another woman who I feel can help me work the steps.

And I really dislike shaking hands and doing hugs if I am a greeter. I plan on just saying hi and welcome to the meeting and trying to remember peoples names.

Well I am off to a 7:30 pm meeting. If this disease takes me down, I just hope to go down fighting. 😊

Wish I caught you before you left I wanted to say...DONT overwhelm yourself with the greeter thing...we want to do everything perfect.

All you have to do perfect is not drink...the names will come to you eventually if you keep showing up to "claim your seat"

Onto Day 4. Meeting last night went well. They have a bbq before the meeting every 2 weeks during the summer, and so I plan on going to the bbq every 2 weeks to do more sober activities. Already have my meeting penciled in for 6 pm tonight after work.
