Day 5

I slipped again recently and am now on day 5. I have been going to an AA meeting each day although today missed one. I currently have no sponsor. I am thinking about asking my female friend in AA to sponsor me but want to wait until I have at least 30 days so I don’t waste her time by slipping again. What do you think?

I don't see a good reason to wait tbh.
If you believe that 12 steps and a sponsor is the way for you to change, why wait?

Back yourself - you can do this

Seems like your AV doesn't want a sponsor.

Probably no better reason to get one.

Best of Luck on Your Journey!

I'd agree that sooner is better than later for all of the program work. I didn't get my sponsor til a good bit after many - however, I knew that AA was my lifeline and I wasn't going anywhere.

I'd caution you against having a friend as a sponsor. Even without other details about her, I have experienced first hand as a sponsee and sponsor that there should be an objectivity that usually a friend cannot have, to maintain the rigorous honesty with which we need to approach and do the steps.

Yes, I agree with all of you that getting a sponsor ASAP is best. I think I want to keep my AA friend as a friend since I don’t have many in the program and will just be open to finding a sponsor.

you can start actively working the program - working the steps - right now without a sponsor. all you need is a notebook and a good pen - or go all Nu school and use a word processor or one of them computer things. LOL

i think you are wise to want to keep your "friend" as your friend - folks can get way too cozied up to their sponsors and vice versa.

my sponsor and i stuck to working the steps, period. no life coaching, or whining allowed. your mileage may vary.
