Hi Press, Can you get out of the office or house for a few minutes and get a change of scenery, maybe go for a walk. If not, you can try having something to eat, or anything that works. I hope you get through this.
it will pass. it's normal. you can have the urge or the thought but you do not have to DO anything about it.
think about pink and white striped rhinos tap dancing.
or what the square root of 57 is, without a calculator.
YOU get to be in charge of your thoughts. you can focus on new thoughts any time.

Some steps I am using are:
1. Acknowledging the craving. Yes, it is hitting like a wave, no lying here
2. Move to a third person / observer position and see calmly
3. Stop all self-talk. I have seen any self talk I do when a craving hits is most likely destructive
4. Move away from the place where the craving started. Distract by drinking sparkling water, deep breathing or brisk walking
Just some tips - hopefully it helps

What about actually making a plan now?
Why insist on willpower when it clearly doesn't work for you?
Press, nothing will change if nothing changes.
What about all the suggestions given to you in the last few threads?
What specific items can you take from them and add what has helped before?
Well done posting before picking up, by the way. . .

Listen to a podcast! Get in the shower! Make a hot drink or something soothing. Something to take your mind off it for a little bit.
Watch some tv, anything. Stranger Things 3 has been really good. You can do this Press!! If you don’t give in today, it gets easier next time.
Keep posting and let us know how you’re doing.

For myself I find that idle time is when the cravings hit the strongest. Keep yourself busy and try to stay around people (that dont drink).
You can also stuff your face with food like someone else said. I think that is acceptable in the first 3 months of sobriety but after that we must find healthier coping skills or else we will get fat.
But if I have to choose alcohol or unhealthy food I would prefer to stuff my face. I also find that drinking black coffee really is the antithesis of alcohol so it helps me to drink lots of coffee

I literally bought a cake to make. I told myself if I get through today tomorrow I’ve earned a cake. Yellow cake with lemon icing. Stay hydrated and eat. Also the Last Czar on Netflix was amazing I binge watched the whole series last night. I came in from the gym and grocery and a huge craving hit me. I’m about to make coffee.
When I was early in recovery and got a craving to drink, I would, if possible, walk my dogs. It gave me something to do, got me outside and moving, and by the time we came home, the thoughts of drinking had gone.
When a walk wasn't possible, I would give them extra attention or treats. Anything to focus on them instead of on me.
