Prediabetes

Does anyone know how long after quitting drinking do you notice a decrease in blood sugar levels? Does it take awhile?

I felt like my blood sugar stabilized after about a week. Really key to eat something every two hours in very early sobriety. And I cut out coffee and switched to tea. I love my coffee but it messed with my blood sugar.

Mine isn't too high. Before I quit it was 118 fasting which my doctor says is pre diabetes. It's read yesterday morning 101 and this morning 110 which is a little better. Do I have to eliminate carbs/processed sugar altogether to get it to stay below 100 fasting?

It's best you speak with your doctor for advice on diet and diabetes . Everyone is different

Hi secretchord

quitting alcohol will certainly help prediabetes but there's a lot of other factors too - exercise, diet, genetics.

Its best you speak to your Dr about your concerns

Everyone is a little different on that. It really depends on your particular insulin resistance issues. I have to really watch mine, but I can have a certain sort or number of carbs and still be ok. Some people are fine if they just exercise more. You will need to work with a doctor and possibly nutritionist to come up with a plan/diet that works for you. Look up the LCHF diet. People have been having good results with that. BUT always always consult with your medical professionals before beginning a new routine.

Try to eliminate sugar and flour as well as alcohol.

Same here, it takes me about a week before my sugar levels stabilise. Thankfully I don't have to cut out coffee as I never drink it! I had to stop drinking coffee two decades ago as it used to make me feel shakey and sweaty. At least I love to drink tea and that has no negative effect on me.
