9 hours - Day 1

I've been awake since 4:30 this morning. Can't sleep. I'm almost 9 hours in without a drink and I can't wait for this to be over. I decided to just bite the bullet and do this. No more of this trying to taper game because it just wasn't working. My heart feels like it's going to beat out of my chest, I'm shaky, nauseous...ugh. I can't wait to feel like myself again.

I've got this!!! I can do it!!!

Good for you. I read your last thread so I know how nervous you were about trying this. Good luck

post often if necessary. You can get through this. You only have to do it once.

Hang in there. that is the most important part. Ive been drinking for 25 years(all day everyday, 5th a day) and trust me it dont get any better. I'm on my 4th day of quitting finally and it feels good. thats not far off for you. Hold tight. Only you can be the judge but dont be afraid to tell those around you. If they are true friends they will understand and help. It really does feel good not to be all spaced out from booze.

You guys I can't take this. I feel like I'm either going to shake apart or have a heart attack. This is so scary.

Can you contact your dr? Let them know what’s going on?

Please seek medical help if you feel that badly. I was 'that' person who always sloughed off the idea of a crisis, like a seizure, until I had one last month.
Withdrawal stinks and nothing but getting through it will make it better.
Count the days, hours, minutes if you need to, I believe in you!

Stay strong. Seek medical assistance if you need to. I believe doctors in the US will prescribe meds to help make detox more comfortable/ less dangerous.

Here in the UK they refuse and just advise a taper but my last self detox I couldn't even stomach sips of alcohol. I went cold turkey and experienced all the symptoms you're experiencing. It was hell but I got through it.

As others have said you only have to do this once.

You are in the US, right? If it gets bad, go to the hospital. They cannot refuse to treat you. Sending you strength and support.

I'm feeling better. I just ate something and I think I might go for a walk of it ever stops raining. Not sure if I'm over the worst of it or not. I'm so incredibly happy to be doing this and getting closer to putting this in my past forever. I hope it's over now and I can move forward with my life.

Eating is good. Maybe take a vitamin, drink some gator aid or lots of water. At only 12 hrs in, you may or may not be done. I would do 9-12 hrs off almost daily. We're here. post away if you need support. Just being on here reading and posting help me get through my first 3 days immensely.

Hey, strength! You sound just like me on my first day. (Only I was way to sick to eat or take a walk) I stayed on this site almost all day. I posted some, but mostly I read other posts because my hands were shaking so much I could barely type.

like Abraham and others have said, post as often as you need. This group is supportive and here to help.

I'm just on day 9, so just a few days ago I was where you are...it is scary, and it sucks, but once you fight through things get better.

Well, it's definitely not over. I'm still shaking, my heart is racing and now I'm sweating too. Ugh. I just want it to be over.

while everyone is different alot of people go through this for 2 or 3 days. Look up alcohol withdrawal symptoms if you have not yet. They are known to last like 12-72 hrs. Good reason to quit drinking. I know I am. 4 days now anyway. I already feel better than I have in a long time. Plus I have $60(probably more) extra dollars in my wallet that I would have spent since saturday. I figure I spent about $100 a week.

How are you doing today? I never had it quite as bad as you, but close. I've thought my heart was going to explode, and I've shook. But I would breath deeply all frickin day just to stay calm. Hope you are ok.
