Don't be a quitter!!!
Don't be a quitter!!!
Never much liked the idea of being a 'quitter'.
Even used it as a 'humorous' reason to keep on being a 'high functioning' alcoholic in overt jokes "I'M NO QUITTER!!" as I downed a martini....
And there was something about "quitting" alcohol - something that felt like being taken away, being incapable of, being lesser-than because I "Had to quit".
So... for me, what worked a lot better was being a STARTER.
Starting to embrace sobriety.
Starting to live more deeply, more fully, more present.
Starting to build a life of clarity and health and awareness.
Starting to heal and grow myself emotionally, spiritually, physically.
When I became a STARTER it helped me become sober. It worked better for me than the mentality of "Quitting".
Maybe that'll be helpful for you, too.

I agree with your mindset. Back when I was drinking I could not imagine quitting and have alcohol taken away from me. Everything that I enjoyed involved alcohol. No more alcohol meant no more fun. Once I sobered up I realized that was all a lie. I now embrace all of the benifits of being sober. Alcohol was not taken from me when I sobered up. It's the exact opposite, alcohol took my freedom while I was drinking.

Free, this makes me think of something my husband shared yesterday. An article about how often we say- and one of the most negative things we say- is "I have to [ ]"...changing that to "I get to [ ] " is hugely impactful to our thinking and attitude.
Thinking of it as I get to be sober and pick my kids up any time they need it, or I get the chance to enjoy a hangover free morning or....is so freeing!

I saw this work again recently... 5 days ago..... when I FINALLY made the actual choice, took actual ACTIONS in the form of a ritual, threw away my 'stash' of cannabis products, physically letting them go and turning my attention from 'quitting' to 'beginning'. Beginning to live again in cannabis-free presence.
The subtle shift from stopping the stopping and starting to start.... it makes such a difference for me.
