14 Months Sober Today

April 1, 2018 I staggered out of bed and called in sick at work. I was out of work for 5 days while I detoxed. I finally went to the doctor just to get something to help me sleep.
I haven't had a drop of alcohol since that day. After several relapses I finally made it stick. Really don't know what made the last time different but I was finally successful.
I rarely discuss it with anybody and honestly don't even get tempted anymore. I was BAD off and would probably be dead by now if I hadn't quit. If I can do it anybody can.
Now at 52 years old I'm looking to make other improvements in my life. Physical fitness and inter personal relationships top the list.
So if you are wanting to sober up just do whatever it takes because it does get better

I especially liked this part. I managed to get quite fit and lost weight by cutting my drinking, but I was still impaired by hangovers and terrible acid reflux whilst running. One time I went to A&E with “chest pains” which I now know were acid reflux caused by a whole bottle of red wine the day before

Yes, stopping the alcohol makes physical fitness that much easier, and at 52 there will be a multitude of sports and activities available which a drinker simply couldn’t manage.

Inspirational post. Well done!
