Day 80 and craving

I've managed to get to day 80 sober but the last 2 nights for some reason I've started craving a drink. There haven't been any stressors that I am aware of.

Anyone else get to around the 3 month mark and feel like they're going backwards a few steps?

Haven't had a drink, as I know these cravings will pass but the fact I've not really had this since after the first week, has taken be by surprise.

That happened to me earlier, and I made the HUGE mistake of falling for the cravings.

Just remember the last hungover, depression, anxiety. Those cravings will go away as fast as they came to your head.

Sorry to hear you drank Hope. Its so hard sometimes.

They've gone a little, still a tingle here and there. Yes the memories of those awful days that follow a night of drinking are good ways to remind myself.

Thanks for your reply

I had a few tough battles, and the last one was at about six months sober. I don't know why, no big *thing* caused it and I was firmly committed to sobriety so I just had to observe it and let it go.

The mind is a complicated thing. These days I don't grab on to those thoughts, I keep it moving, but I think it just takes time and practice.

Cravings don't necessarily diminish in a straight linear fashion. This is why we have people talk about good days and bad days in recovery. I would certainly expect a little spike in occasional cravings 3 months out and beyond, so this doesn't strike me as unusual. You may have to deal with something similar years into sobriety, but from now on, they will be like what you are experiencing right now. That is, you will experience them, but shrug them off.

Thanks DriGuy

That makes sense. They hit hard when you don't expect them. But they are much easier to deal with when they're occasional and not consistently hounding you. They've now passed much to my relief.

I guess the thing we all need to be prepared for a re these cravings at any stage in recovery.

I find that if I 'give into' a different craving (like eating a huge ice cream sundae or a big indulgent meal) I can relate the "why did do that?! I feel sick! " To food and I am glad it wasn't alcohol!

I have had cravings, but they don't last long. As competitive as I am, the feeling of failure and starting over on day 1 is enough for me to just say no.

My first "real" try at getting sober I just used SR. I got past 60 days and then I drank again for a month. Then, I called an addiction counselor and he helped me come up with a plan. Next month I celebrate 3 years. Only thing I can say is - I don't think many people can do this alone.

Great job on 80 days! Keep going!
