Sons rugby presentation today

Morning everyone 😊. Hope your all good today.
Just checking in to get a little support and pep talk from you guys.
Today I have my son's rugby presentation, which normally would consist of me licking my lips in anticipation of having a few beers .
Today not so, today im licking my lips in anticipation of having a hog roast lol, I'm a little uneasy to be honest. As it's a huge presentation today, live music, free bar, hog roast.
Every year I've cracked open a few cans beforehand, just to deal with the huge numbers of people which will be there ( the confidence thing)
I have no intention of picking up, I've planned the day,and the escape route, and I'm confident, but also a little nervous.
This is my son's day, and I'm not going to ruin it by being a ****,
So his slot is at 3.30 so I'm going there for 3.00. I'm watching his bit then coming away. I'm not going to put myself in a situation where I feel trapped. I've arranged a lift home for 4.00. My ex partner said he will stay with my son so he can enjoy his day. I've had a chat with my son and he understands 😊. Next year I hope I'm in a position to stay the whole day. For today I don't need to put any pressure on myself, my A.V will be shouting but I'm ready.
Have a beautiful weekend, I will check in again later.
Much love as always 🙏💖

Well handled Doris.
You did great.
Sorry I didn’t see your post earlier or I would have tried to give you a bit of support.

Being a little nervous is good, I think. It's much better than being complacent. It sounds like yu have a good plan, Doris. Enjoy!

I will echo Anna's wisdom....nervous is better than numb or "checked out". Well done. Your post reminded of another I read here...nope an article on sobriety - wherein the author stated that he always knocked back a couple drinks in the first 30 minutes of any social event to ease his social anxiety. The author noted that whether he was sober or drinking....the first 30 minutes of anxiety exists and passes sober or drinking.

I recollect that to be true myself.

Nice job Doris.

I think the way you handled that was textbook perfect for dealing with a social event in early sobriety where you'd normally drink.

Bravo!

Thanks everyone, it was a short check in yesterday as friends came over to check in with me to make sure I stayed sober😊. Which was very sweet of them. I won't lie it was tough. If it wasn't for the fact it was my son's presentation I wouldn't have gone. Its far to early to be in those situations. It's feels good to be hangover free again today. I was watching people throw down huge amounts of alcohol. I did get a pang of regret that I can no longer be part of that group. (As stupid as that sounds) but proud of the fact that I didn't stay and get wasted. Yeah sort of mixed emotions really. It's 6.15am in the UK. I haven't got my head down the toilet throwing up lol, so I'm happy 😊.
Doris 🙏💖

It will get easier.
Everything is raw in the beginning ( on all your firsts so to speak)
You will keep growing and learning like Lola.

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Excuse my turn of phrase spring chicken

Sounds like you have some good friends there.
You was present for your sons presentation and that is all that matters.
That’s what he will remember. Not mum getting drunk and embarrassing him and spoiling his day.

Well done
