‘Fridge Light was Out’ - Weekenders 10 - 13 May 2019

to Weekenders

I had a light in my fridge, probably like everyone does, except mine had been out for a few years.

The reason was my drinking time took up so much time, I couldn’t find the effort to unscrew the holder it was in, see the size and go and buy one!

Such a small job and important...but I put it off, like lots of small jobs.

When I’d stopped drinking and caught up with many neglected jobs I wanted to do, I put a new bulb in it. Tried the door a few times, pleased as Punch with it and then posted it on SR what I had done.

It wasn’t the job of replacing the light bulb that pleased me so much, but I felt I’d turned a corner in my sobriety. I was clear headed, sober, alert and focused and it was a good feeling.

I’m guessing we all put off things that gave us more drinking time and stopped us living, even the simple things.

If this will be your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat, as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes, with spare time on our hands.

LOL, I love the story and the metaphor. I used to symbolize my disorientation after drinking by saying my attic fan was running. It's good to be able to pay attention to the little things and the big things together.

Uh oh, a procrastinator thread.

Not sure I have a right to be posting in here...I always have a reason for putting stuff off. It doesn't have to be alcohol, it's in my nature.

However, I like doing inexpensive fixes, so I've never had a lightbulb stay out and I always have a backup of those 40W appliance bulbs.

Now, about that file cabinet with documents that should have been shredded 10 years ago.

Andy and Sao, I'm sorry to hear of your job discomforts. Petals, I hope it got better after your last post.

This really resonated with me. I have always been a bit compulsive about things but when I sobered up I realized how much I had let go. Now everything that is within my ability to do is done asap.

Thanks Mags! I’m in for another sober one.

Thanks for all the well wishes regarding the wedding. I’m feeling a lot better about it. I think it’s gonna be a wonderful event that I will remember fondly.

IN!

Thanks for the new thread Mags.

Routine maintenance is hard when your main routine is opening bottles.

I have always worried about my fridge light at SaoutchikTowers. I mean it's supposed to go off but how do you know?...

Use your cell phone.

This bathroom reno is one such event. I could not even tell you how many years ago we (my wife) bought the flooring.

Speaking of my wife, who'm I love so dearly. She'll be coming of the plane this Saturday with a brand new Ukulele on her shoulder for me!

we had a large population of crows in the neighbourhood when we first moved in. They would tear open garbage bags on collection days and eat the leftovers. a number of years later, we all moved to automated collection bins. The Crows were no longer able to get at the garbage and so they left. We still have a few but many of the smaller birds have moved back in.

"Above Us Only Sky" - Title of a really good John Lennon/Yoko Ono documentary new on Netflix (at least in the US.) REALLY good, well worth watching. I'm sure I'll watch it again.

I'm in for another sober weekend.

I'm still a terrible procrastinator. I can get to small things, like light bulbs, right away, but big projects... not so much. It is better than it was when I was spending so much time drinking, but it is something I am working hard to address. Having things hanging over me all the time is very bad for my mental health.

I was thinking a little bit about my midterm life goals and how it relates to my sobriety. Everything is exactly how it's supposed to be right now. I'm eagerly anticipating things that I'm building towards and trying to enjoy the ride at the same time.

"The suspense it terrible. I hope it will last." - Willy Wonka

What can I say I guess I'm in a great mood today. Enjoy the rest of the week everybody and have a happy and sober weekend!
