Thinking of the AV like a child
Thinking of the AV like a child
Yesterday the AV was there in all it’s sick glory, saying you weren’t that bad etc etc and I thought if that was a child who wanted a new toy etc and I said no, the more I say no the child would get fed up of asking and realizing no meant no, so that’s how I’m treating the AV and hopefully eventually it will stop asking, have a great day everyone ❤️
I've found the AV has finally faded. It peeps up now and then but holds no sway over me and has no authority. The further you go into sobriety and get to reap the benefits of the work and the right decisions, the weaker and more faded the AV becomes. Good work.

Exactly! A ‘No’ is the most important response, whether it’s the RR ‘No, I will not drink, ever!’ or AA’s ‘No, I will not drink today!’.
Over time the child will understand that the parent has taken a firm position, even if it may still give it a try once in a while! I’m closing in on 22 months, and even though cravings are a non-issue these days, every so often I hear a faint ‘You’ve been so good for so long, you can now go and have one’, to which I simply reply ‘What did I tell you? No means no! Now go and set the table!’
Enjoy your sober Sunday!

My AV gave me confidence by telling me everything was fine and that there was nothing wrong with me. And that's all well and good. Such support is hard to find, except that I had actual evidence telling me everything was not fine, and there were things wrong with me.
The AV ignores evidence and reason and builds it's arguments on warm fuzzy fluff, and sometimes outright lies, whatever it takes to feed its addiction. It makes it easier to think of the AV in the third person, but the brutal truth is that AV, which we either laugh at or take advice from, is us. Whatever it is saying is us working against what is logically in our own best interests.
