car accident

Just got home from being involved in a car accident. I'm fine and my cars fine but I couldn't believe the guy that rear ended me. A car behind him hit him which made him hit me, The driver behind him was an older lady that was pretty shook up. She ended up going to the hospital. This guy had absolutely no concern about me or her. He just got on his phone making calls. I told the guy that maybe he should be checking first to make sure everybody is all right. He just said he had to make his calls first. I told him he is just one cold person and that there's something wrong with him. God, what's wrong with people. I know things change and I'm an old guy with old guy belief's and values, and these things change over time. But I'll never believe this sort of behavior should be considered acceptable or the norm. I really wanted to punch the guy in the mouth. What a loser. John

John - I'm so glad you're ok after that frightening experience.
That man sounds like a self-absorbed jerk. I would've been angry too.

Glad you weren't hurt. Some people are just selfish and uncaring.

Are you okay?

Sometimes injuries don't show up until later. Take good care of yourself today!

I was the person who was rear-ended in traffic several years ago and immediately was on my phone. I was not okay and making phones calls:

1. Calling in the accident.

2. I started getting an awareness that things weren't right somehow with how I was processing information. Something was wrong, yet I felt 'okay'.

3. More phone calls. They helped me greatly with dealing with a bad situation I couldn't be of help with and was far out of my control.

4. The damage to my car was minimal. I found out later that as my car didn't crumple, the force of the impact landed with me differently. The damage to my brain was unseen, yet the steps I took from the very first moment helped support a long recovery period that required a team of people who specialize in major injuries.

I don't know how the others viewed my actions, yet I was doing the very best I was able to. Thinking I was okay while observing as I went through the motions that things weren't connecting right in my brain was strange.

I'm with you John. Checking on others after something like that is the only decent thing to do. I'm glad you are ok

Hope you are doing ok.

I had a 'strange' experience a few months ago. I was on my way to meet a friend at an AA meeting. She had been struggling so I agreed to meet her there, support and all that. She called me from the road and said she had just gotten in an accident and it was literally just a few minutes ahead of where I was. When I got there, 2 cars involved, neither of them were talking. The lady that hit her was on the phone and my friend was kind of spazzing around, discombobulated. The cops showed up shortly after and an ambulance.

Anywho, where I'm going with this is it appeared they were both in shock. Neither were hurt, it was just kind of a bad fender bender so it looked worse than it was. But no doubt they were both in shock. Neither seemed to give a rats azz about the other.

So who knows why people do what they do. Maybe the guy that rear ended and was rear ended was in shock? Who knows. All that counts is you kept your composure, you're ok and you were able to be compassionate. One thing I've learned in spades, everyone experiences everything differently.

You're quite right to feel that way, the guy was being a self-absorbed jerk. I don't think values or common humanity have changed that much. He sounds like a wrong-un.

I'm doing fine, but I did get a message from a car insurance agency. Don't know who filed a claim. Probably the lady. Will call him back tomorrow. John

Maybe he was in shock or something. Who knows how people react in times of stress

Glad you're ok.
