I watched a little then had to stop. Just couldn’t watch more. So sad 😞

I think it’s always good to show both sides of the story if there is one. After a stint in rehab he is still sober, the film was from around 2008. However he has turned his life around and is still sober, there is hope for everyone xx

I remember an AA meeting I went to years ago before I decided it wasn't for me.
At the meeting was this well dressed, well spoken bloke, who was sharing. Then, I suddenly remembered him! When I was young, he was a real method drinker, used to fight invisible enemies in the road and hold up busses, mostly the bus I took to work and his shannanigans would make me late!

Since then he got sober, fought cancer, and was a very nice man.
Unfortunately his cancer caught up with him again and he died.
But I will never forget the difference in that man from drinking to not drinking

It was amazing to see this bloke that i had seen on the tv growing up, it just shows you alcohol can take anyone, so glad his turned his life around

margbella 04-22-2019 01:42 AM

Basically went from "having it all" to sleeping on the street. It's a sad story. I hope he survives, but recovering his former life and celebrity status is probably a fantasy at this point.

He may recover, but alcohol destroyed his life. At least a part of his life, and given the short amount of time we are given, that goes down on the books as a loss. Even if he improves his position 1000 fold at this point, part of his life went down the drain.

This bothers me because it hits home. Am I happy to have a successful recovery? You bet. Am I happy to be an alcoholic? Not for a minute. I might be happy now, and I'm certainly grateful for my escape, but alcohol diminished the quality of important years during my prime, and I don't get those back.

Apparently he did turn his life around, which is what I choose to focus on instead of his bottom.

Sometimes the first are last and the last are first. God does this to confound the wise.

I burnt to death because of booze- revived 3x, dialysis- my wife and 2 adult sons never visited and cut me out of their lives that day. I then got thrown out of hospital for drinking hand sanitizer, lived in a very horrible place full of horrible and damaged people- where I drank even more...until I had to make a fatal decision- drink- and die..or change.

I changed.

I lost everything - and that will haunt me with remorse and sadness as to the damage I caused

But now- after 3 and a bit years sober- I am more the person I always could have been.

It is possible....I am living proof and am grateful for every new breath I draw, even on my most worst of days.

Addiction sucks

But we do not have to

Is the glass half empty or is it half full? I have often been charmed by this philosophical question, which gains it's strength by pointing out that how we perceive things can influence our state of mind. But ego defense mechanisms, like rationalization and projection accomplish the same things. We turn to those because they make us feel better.

Take a hard look at the question logically instead of philosophically.
Is the glass half empty or half full? Answer: It's half a glass, and will always be no more or less than half a glass whether it is either half full or half empty.

You can choose to see things in a positive or negative way, but sometimes you just see them as they are, and sometimes the sliver lining has a cloud. This is not the ideal because we don't live in Utopia.

The video is depressing for me overall. The video does what it's supposed to do. It's a warning about playing with alcohol, and it drives that point home well in a thought provoking way. The guy in the report now has a glass that's one tenth full, and that's better than nothing, and I can applaud, but not in a spirit of jubilation as if his glass was now full.

Dandelion12 04-22-2019 05:36 AM

What if there is no glass?

No measurement?

Just asking

I personally think we are all better off sharing our OWN stories over posting links to celebs, etc stories. Some of these you are sharing are very disturbing and people that are in recovery or trying to recover need encouragement, not some dramatic YT videos. I think we all know where alcohol will take us, and unfortunately some have experienced this. The support is here not on YT. IMO. Good luck on your sobriety, I hope you make it this time.
