I want to quit drinking
Does any one have any tips or inspirational stories? I think if I read a recovery story about some one like me it would be very motivational as most stories I’ve read are about people who literally drink non stop. I’m quite high functioning just turn into a horrific human when I’ve been drinking and crave it every night.
thanks 😊

Welcome 123live. I'm sure there are many with similar stories as yours. "Functioning alcoholic" is a description used often with many different interpretations. Btw, if it's to the point that you know you need to stop but can't, you are no longer functioning IMO.
Read around and tell a bit more of yourself. Many will chime in with their experience. Hopefully something will resonate with you and get you off the mad hamster wheel of addiction.

Trust me when I say this:
Sobriety will be your longest journey and your greatest achievement.
You will discover strength in yourself that you didn't know existed.
The demons will do everything they can to drag you to hell, yet they will fail.
As you raise your arms in victory, you have lived the most inspiring story.

It's so good to have you here with us, 123live. Not feeling alone anymore meant everything to me. We are here to encourage you - we understand how it feels to begin the journey. You can get free & have a new life.
I’ve been living a sober life for over five years. That’s after decades of ‘high functioning’ that I finally accepted wasn’t really the way I wanted to live.
biggest shift for me was when I stopped trying to stop drinking and started deciding to Live In Sobriety.
That may seem a trivial difference- but for me it made ALL the difference

You can find some of those inspirational people here if you hang out for a while. I met inspirational people face to face in AA. There is always a mixture of people that range from still struggling to moving forward. Inspirational people were very influential in my recovery. I met some joyful people living sober lives which gave me hope when I needed it most. It was a big help for me in the beginning.
