Day 17 check in...
Today is day 17 for me. I've been very physically active, going to the gym 3x a week, plus daily walks and hikes every other day. Every day gets just a bit easier, and it's amazing how much clearer my head is. Additionally, before I go to sleep at night, I express gratitude for both the small and good things that I experienced that day. Doing so has made me so aware of how much I have taken for granted over the years.
Anxiety is MUCH lower, I don't overreact internally to things like I did. It's amazing, and frightening how much alcohol exaggerates negative emotion.
I still think about drinking, but it's far less a craving than a thought. When I play through the outcome if I were to drink, I'll be back to the pathetic mess I was on days 1-3, which were an utter nightmare.
Tonight I am going to an AA meeting with one of my closest friends with over 20 years of sobriety.
Today is a good day, and I am grateful for 17 days of sobriety. Reading here is an inspiration and a big part of my recovery!

Hello, TacoDude.
Congratulations on 17 days!
I have 21 years of continuous sobriety, and I am so grateful for each day. I remember my first AA meeting. I was a complete mess. I kept going back and I now have 21 years of continuous sobriety. I wish you lots of luck on your continued journey.

I'm doing well, thanks for asking! Just got back from the gym. Staying strong and sober at day 19. This coming Monday will be the beginning of week 3 for me.
My biggest challenge as it relates to thinking about drinking come around the time when I used to begin drinking in the early evening, around 5:30-6pm. So, the plan I follow is that if I'm not cooking or participating in cooking dinner for the two of us, I stay busy, usually with a walk followed by some reading. Once I get through dinner, I'm fine.
