Welcome to Weekenders MariahGayle!

I hope everyone made it through Friday.

Well done MB (on receiving that email)

This being a recovery site I would not normally post pictures of pubs but at 6.30 am it is not open. This one is interesting in as much as it is mentioned in an old nursery rhythm. I'm sure all my fellow Brits will have heard of it and maybe others too. It is called Pop Goes the Weasel. The first verse is very well known but there are two others, it goes

Half a pound of tuppenny rice,
Half a pound of treacle.
That's the way the money goes,
Pop! goes the weasel.

Every night when I go out,
The monkey's on the table,
Take a stick and knock it off,
Pop! goes the weasel.

Up and down the City road,
In and out the Eagle,
That’s the way the money goes,
Pop goes the weasel.

"Weasel" is abbreviated cockney rythming slang for weasel and stoat - coat and to "pop" is to pawn so the last verse refers to the habit of pawning your coat to get money for booze. Kinda relevant eh?

This is the Eagle in question although strictly speaking it isn't as the nursery rythm is somewhat older - this one was rebuilt in 1901. The City road is about 100 metres/yards to the right.

Checking in. Glad Friday is gone - nice to wake up with a clear head and not having to piece together what happened last night...

Saturday morning - going back to bed soon - I have a whole week of sobriety today! - will take a walk to park later, and go supermarket for some healthy stuff - I discover yesterday I have early stage Alc. Hepatitis, but I posted elsewere of this.

Keeping positive and remembering years ago I used to go away weekends and have fun and stuff - must be so nice to look forward to the weekend with a clear head.

So Im determined to get there, and for that I need to pull through all this stuff, get well, and keep positive. Going back to sleep for an hour or two now, I seem to be sleeping a lot.

Thanks.

Congrats confused guy and everyone else who has another sober day in the bag!! x

Great to hear from you MB, I agree with Dee! You are handling your current trials and tribulations like a like a champion and happy to hear you are reaching out for support with the therapist and Hell Maybe. xx

Not much going on for me, feeling a little blank and not sure If I should be worrying about it or not lol. Work is going ok, everything is going ok in fact and I think my addict brain is feeling rather unnerved by it all. I am still not used to being or feeling ok, no dramas, no deep depression and feeling hopeless. Can’t say I feel happy though, bit like being in an emotional limbo, not up, not down and don’t know what to do with that lol.

I am desperate to give up smoking, been a heavy smoker for over 30 years and last time I tried I relapsed last May (not because of it but sure it didn’t help). I have smoked a heck of a lot more in recovery too. I am scared of the fight I will have to give it up, stopping drinking was hard enough and the thought of taking on another battle with addiction and all the things that come along with it in the early days...just not sure I am ready for it.

Anyhow, have a super sober Saturday and be kind to yourselves xx

I am starting day seven. I am sober and ready to go get in a workout. After that I am going to have breakfast with some friends. I will be checking in as weekends seem to be the hardest to get through. Thanx for being here and congrats to everyone else that is waking up sober.

It's not my place to say MB, but finish those last two shifts. It's didnt all that horrible, 'cept for the travel. Might give you a good rep with the temp jobs place? (incase you have a need for them in the future - or do they really even care?)

Manta, Mrs Dragon and myself quit smoking 19 years ago on April 16th. Mrs D chewed the nicotine gum right up until about a year ago.... Her doctor said it was OK as it's better than smoking.

ConfusedGuy, I slept alot during my first few months and I loved it! embrace the sleep , go with the flow, your body is recovering while you sleep.

I have too much going on and can't sleep. I am afraid I made a mistake five years ago on a government application and that it may be a huge problem. I feel like I was being honest, because the government scares me and I would not want to be on their bad side but I may have messed it up unknowingly. Send good thoughts my way...that I don't end up in huge debt or in jail. Seriously. I'm not sure how this will play out. Nothing bad has happened yet and I'm assured by the State on the phone that everything is okay, but I am having to fill out new forms for a different Federal benefit (Social Security/Medicare) and it's really scary. They make it so complicated and the forms are confusing. Thankfully I'm healthy and don't have the added worry of needing a lot of medical care or prescriptions - but I don't expect I'll stay healthy forever. Ugh. Getting older is not for the faint of heart.

All about me, my anxiety and my over-active imagination this morning.

Love the Eagle and Pop goes the Weasel.

This is how I remember it...

Quote:
All around the mulberry bush,
The monkey chased the weasel.
The monkey fell down and oh what a sound -
Pop! goes the weasel.
..and because I'm not scared enough - then there was the scary toy that played the song:

this is why we don't like clowns.

BIM, sorry to hear about that. I’m pretty sure that if they can’t prove that you were knowingly being dishonest, then you should be left alone.

thanks Dee and Captain. I'm just a huge bundle of nerves. I got probably eight pieces of mail from the State and the Federal system this week. Oh, and taxes (both - income and property taxes) this weekend too.

This is where procrastination really bites me in the backside.
