Forced to quit!!!

Hello, so for the last 2 months I've had some pains in my chest, etc. Went to a walk in clinic and they told me nothing "mechanical is wrong". Then had my yearly physical and everything checked out (blood work, physical exam, etc.) He told me to see a Cardiologist which I did and everything was fine. Finally had enough and went to see a GI today as he has treated me before for colonoscopies and endoscopes (I have Celiac).
He told me that what I have is acid reflux which is causing the problems in my chest and that I would need to give up 3 major things, booze, chocolate and diet coke. Why couldn't it be cauliflower, broccoli and lemons?????

So here I sit staring at a bottle of Omeprazole (generic version of Prilosec) for acid reflux. Anyone ever take this and how quickly did it help with reflux.

Thanks

I had horrible problems with reflux too and it took months to fully correct.

My doctor prescribed meds too, but the real problem was my drinking. Kind of like if you have a pulled muscle in your shoulder - ibuprofen will help with the pain temporarily, but you really need to do the physical therapy to fix the core problem.

In my case the antacids were just the bandaid - quitting drinking was the real cure.

When I got sober for good, my acid reflux went away after a while.

My acid reflux got so much better when I quit drinking. The medicine helped but it was sobriety that made the biggest impact.

All sorts of digestive issues, top and bottom, cleared up quickly after I quit.

Alcohol is a corrosive substance on the stomach and gut in excess for sure.
