Hi - so.. I dont want to drink anymore. I'm on Day 4 sober first time in 5 years of drinking 2-12 drinks a night.

My friend is visiting from a city 4 hours flight away. Hes keen to go out to dinner. Hes a high functioning alcoholic himself. Hes supporting me in my decision cos hes a good friend.

But I'm NERVOUS seeing him at night cos I know he will be drinking. I'm not ready to watch that yet.

is it rude if I cancel? Hang out with him during the weekend days only?

any input is valued. I DO NOT want to stuff this up. I cannot have alcohol in my life going firward

If you're worried you'll drink, cancel.
If he's a good friend, and as supportive as you say he is, he'll get it.

Think about what it looks like to prioritize yourself by prioritizing your sobriety. You always have a right to say no especially when your future is at stake. I know for me having just been out in the world around a lot of alcohol I realized I'm not ready to be there.

I agree with dee, especially this early.

Be very clear and honest if you want to meet without drinks, he can always go out and drink after.

I have heavy drinking friends, they eventually find their peace with how I live. If they didn't they wouldnt be my friends.
