I've been listening to a podcast called Recovery Elevator. It's great to remember that you don't have to be an "alcoholic" to get sober to change your life. for me, I am an alcoholic but it doesn't really matter what I call it or what anybody calls it. If you're posting on here then you have a problem. I also take naltrexone which helps with cravings. You got this
There are many threads in here about things to do to take your mind off things..
What's worked for me is to take a long hot shower, get into a clean bed (freshly washed sheets) and read a book or surf the net. That whole process can kill a good hour, and if you feel the urges returning, make sure to stick on these boards and type away - chronical your feelings, listen to what others have to say, understand the words of encouragement are real, from experience, we all know how you feel.
Im going on 3+ years, and the first few months were the hardest - but there is an amazing light at the end of the tunnel, true freedom.

Welcome!!
I'm posting two great links below. One is the 24 hour thread where you can check in each day. The other is the April 2019 class thread, here you'll find others who've committed or recommitted to sobriety this month.
Glad you're here!!!

Great news. I never thought I would be able to stop drinking in a million years. The one thing that hit me in early sobriety was that I was able to sleep through the night after a couple weeks. While I was drinking, I always woke up like clockwork between 3am and 4am. I would go back to bed after about an hour, after sweating, feeling nauseous and getting my heart to stop racing. Then I would have to wake up a couple hours later to get ready for work. I was so tired. Keep it up. It gets better.

Hi Wurzel,
Congratulations on two nights - that's fantastic! It will get a little bit better each day until one day you suddenly realize how great you feel. I've found that a schedule can be really helpful. Eat three meals/day at approximately the same time, go to bed and wake up at the same time, and schedule something for every waking hour. It doesn't matter what you schedule - do a crossword, work on a puzzle, go for a walk, spend an hour or two on SR, shower, whatever. Then stick to it.
And yes, drink loads of water - it has healing properties for sure.
I'm glad you've "met" ConfusedGuy. You two could make an awesome alliance.

Hey Guys
so last night was the first time in a very long time i can say i actually had some sleep (about 4hrs) rather than just dropping due to drinking.
today has been hard though and a drink has not been far from my mind all day, self torture around trying to convince myself a few wont hurt and over the worst but have got to the evening and had a meal and have a huge bottle of water to drink to keep my hands busy.
confused guy how did you get on ?
