So many sober celebs that I enjoy!

I like comedians so for me:

Bobby Lee, Craig Ferguson, Chris Hardwick, Marc Maron, Russel Brand.

Craig Ferguson tells this fantastic story that always brings a tear to my eye:

President Trump told reporters on Monday that his sobriety was one of his “few good traits.”

"I'm not a drinker. I can honestly say I've not had a beer in my life. That's one of my only good traits. I don't drink," Trump said, according to ABC News. "I've never had alcohol, you know, for whatever reason. Can you imagine if I had what a mess I'd be?”

His brother was a massive alcoholic and died from it at 42.

Ah good to see you admire the man's self-deprecating humor!

I like his humbleness in the matter too and his stoic attitude.

Were ABC trying to mock him on the matter as if taking what he said literal? Ha some folks can be so small minded and petty don't you think? Even when the man is advocating no drugs no alcohol and no cigs, they'll still try to find a bitchy angle.

Here's the video that you were referring to:

I've found a little inspiration from of all people Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino from Jersey Shore. Now I'm in no way recommending this show. I avoided it for years and binged it a few years ago. It's garbage but very funny.

This guy was an alcoholic and drug addict as was most of the cast and completely pulled a 180. He was hated and a total scumbag and has turned into a halfway decent human being. Pretty unbelievable transformation and encouraging that our true selves are usually much more adept at living life productively. Just gotta get out of our own way.

I also look to Chris Hardwick and admire his sobriety. He is very good at what he does and I do not think he would be nearly as effective as a communicator if he drank or used.

I always found it helpful to read about celebrities or famous people who don't drink. Reminds me we really aren't all that different. Including the homeless man or woman drinking from a paper bag. If I ever get in that mindset that work, money, material things will make me happy, it's a reality check.

Who knows. There could be a celebrity on SR just working on sober or cheering us on. Just another soul doing their best to live a good life. So if Bradley Cooper is out there... Right on Dude!!

A broken clock is right twice a day.

But God, my life would have been a lot easier if I'd never started drugs and alcohol.

Hoping your struggles are going better.

I would add country and American artist John Hiatt, of Nashville, who has been sober for decades.

Also, Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers. He's been sober ~35 years.

The most inspiring to me are Elton John, Eric Clapton (who actually owns or funds Crossroads Treatment Center in Antigua) and Joe Walsh.

I got sober a little after Elton and Eric and a little before Joe.

They all put a great name and face on recovery.

Alongside all of them, though, are the tragedies, like Philip Seymour Hoffman and many others.

To me, AA (and recovery generally) has always been a dichotomy of miracles on the one hand a tragedies on the other.

I suggest that the next thread be about celebrities who need to be clean and sober.

Just kidding.

Just a note (and a reminder to those who already know) If we start veering into a political discussion this thread will be closed.

https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums...-politics.html

In the interests of this thread's real topic, any further posts about politics may be removed.

please lets focus just on recovery, and recovery examples

In the midst of every day drinking I would look @ a sober musician, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, & think how do they do it, where do they get the energy? After a year plus sober I get it.

Thanks for the Craig Ferguson link. Brought a tear to my eye too when he said everyone knows an alcoholic.

Side note: if you haven’t read or listened to Russell Brand’s book on recovery, you should. I highly recommend it. Disclaimer: it’s pretty twelve steppy

Another good one was Nikki Sixx’s Heroin Diaries. Amazing he’s still alive.
