Newbie

Good morning, this is all new to me. I know I have a problem and I'm a strong woman but my drinking is ruining my marriage, effecting my kids, and my everyday life. It's embarrassing and I am just looking to support through this process.

Welcome and we're here for you.

We all understand how hard this is. Take a look around and see if you can come up with a plan to stop drinking, that will work for you. :)

Welcome!
You have joined a great group.

I remeber when I joined 17 months ago. I was in a similar situation.
I have not picked up alcohol since joining.
I changed everything in my life, people, places and things.
I didn't go to the bar or club or show's (Until I was good within my sobriety), I didn't go to the liquor store. That made it easier to not consume it.
I came here a lot.
I read stories of those with a year plus, I read stories of relapse which scared me as I never wanted to feel the way you are currently feeling.
I have not been hungover in 17 months, I have not regretted a word or action I made, I can rest easy knowing my son is taken care of and I am able to drive at any given moment in the event of an emergency.

I am free, I am ME- The person I knew that was deep inside me but was too caught up in the drink and drama. I was lost for a long time. The longer sober time I have the better I feel, the more respect I have for myself and the more respect people have for me.

I wish you the best,
DC

Thank you so much.... any ideas is much appreciated. I saw another thread about a March 2019 group or something in Newcomers but I haven't been able to find it.

You have come to the right place to begin your journey to sobriety. Have you considered taking further action? Like AA or treatment? I needed both - and I have been sober over 4 years now. My life was a real mess, and I hated myself, but almost every single thing in my life is better now. Pretty great, in fact.

You can do this - but you'll need a plan. Somewhere there is a thread on how to make a plan - I can't find it, but maybe one of the moderators will jump in and post the link.

The Class of March 2019 thread probably hasn't been started yet. Join the February class for now.

All the best.

Hello and welcome.
Drinking eventually affected every aspect of my life. I was a drunk first and a friend, lover and co-worker second.
Booze came first in my life for a very long time.
It wasn't till I sought help that I was finally able to get my drinking under control and finally eliminate it from my life.
It took awhile. I chose to go to AA and come here.
I drank for a very long time and it took me awhile of stops and starts to finally be able to quit completely.

It's been ten years now after thirty years of drinking. The last ten were a nightmare.
Save yourself and maybe your family and other aspects of your life by stopping now.
It can get too late.
This is a great place for support so stick around. I'm sorry you have a reason to be here, but I'm glad you found us.

Welcome!

I found surrendering to outside help was the key to recovery. There are AA meetings almost everywhere, and many cities have clinical programs for alcohol withdrawal. Don't be afraid of seeking help!

Here's the February support thread:
