... asking for a sponsor at AA. I know that's what I need to do, but I'm kind of a loner. I'm an introvert, basically, who only (occasionally) likes to hang out with women. Frankly, I just don't like most men. The whole alpha male s**t. So it's hard for me to imagine asking a complete stranger dude for his phone number to phone when I'm feeling gnarly or whatever.

It's okay to be scared. Do it anyway. If nothing changes, nothing changes. You are going to have to get out of your comfort zone if you want this to work.
