Start a blog

I have been thinking. I want to start a blog to write about my recovery. I a just on day 1 but think this might help me. Sort of like a journal.. Has anyone done this before?

It's a pretty common thing and can certainly be helpful. You have a blog right in your profile here already if you'd care to start using it.

Hey Goosemoose,

I had a pretty comprehensive blog that detailed my addiction, recovery and mental health. I used WordPress to host it. I kept it up for about six months but then realised I was starting to tailor the content to what I thought the readers wanted rather than it being a daily diary etc.

I got rid of it and now have a typed daily diary on my laptop. I personally find it more effective. It's private and generally the entries are a bit longer than blog posts were. And if I ever decide to start a blog in the future I can copy and paste the content over.

I think any kind of journalling/blog/diary is helpful. For me, it often helps me to sort my thoughts and make sense of them. I hope you enjoy using your blog.

Just click on Blogs in the upper left. Then click on "my blog". And there you are.

Hi GooseMoose

we had to increase the post count due to some persistent spammers. I'm not sure what the new limit is - it might be 15? but rest assured, it's nothing personal

I do a daily journal and it’s really helpful. I was going to do an online blog in the early days as I was on my way to rehab but someone said to be careful that I didn’t become and observer of my recovery rather than a participant and it struck a chord with me at the time. I think as Natom mentioned there can be a temptation to start writing for your readers rather than for yourself. There is stuff in my journal I would never share with anyone else but I had to write it out for me so I could deal with it and at 8 months sober I continue to do a private journal daily.

Congrats on your sober time so far and keep up the good work! x

I've thought about getting on a blog site. Right now I just use my "Day 1" post on here as my blog. It probably annoys the crap out of people, but it works for me.
