I've used alcohol for 45 years. I've decided it's time to move on.
I'm 58 now.
Off and on through the years I've had brief periods where I would stop .I think I made it about 3 months once about 25 years ago .Each time I would start back up again feeling like it was possible to just be a "social drinker". That mindset would usually last for a few weeks, or maybe a few months, but I would always end up getting drunk again, even though my intentions were to just "get buzzed" and call it a night.
So, I think I now know that I am not a social drinker, nor have I ever been.
I've been an insomniac for years, but after the first couple of weeks, I've started sleeping again .Deep sleep.
I've always stayed fairly fit, but I'm amazed at how much more energy i have to get through my workouts these days .
I didn't drink every day, it was more like every other day. I usually didn't have enough to be hungover, but as I eluded to, my energy level was certainly not at its best.
Forty five years is a long time to be involved with something that is so sinister.

Welcome, KidC. There are many members here who didn't find long term sobriety until their 40's, 50's and beyond. Today, right now, is the only moment we have, guaranteed - may as well make it fantastic!
Congratulations on your decision and best wishes on creating an awesome life without alcohol. It IS possible!

I'm in the 58 club, too. Got sober at 56. It took me a good while to heal from the 44 years of drinking, but I drank daily for the last 25 of those. Today, life is good and there is so much to look forward to every single day ! Keep up the good work!
