6 Years on its my birthday, I didnt expect to make it.
Six years ago today, I faced extinction.
I had lost both my parents, my wife had deserted me and I was on the verge of losing my job. I hated myself , was full of self pity and my health was deteriating rapidly. I plucked up the courage to call the AA helpline and my journey to where I am now began.
I am fearful of alcohol but don’t avoid being near it and I am sick of the thousands of excuses as to why I am not drinking.
Now, I am a senior executive in major corporation. I still do not have the courage to say I am an Alcoholic , one day I hope to have the courage to fight to remove the stigma associated with people who face this disease.
My family are proud of my six years of sobriety and it’s precious to them . Without starting with day 1 ,week1 ,month 1 ,year 1 ..I would not have survived and this note would not be written. Good luck to all , I hope I get the chance to write again next Feb..x

Who cares if you don’t want to call yourself an alcoholic, that’s your prerogative.
