Rain in my Heart

Last night I watched a UK documentary, 'Rain in my Heart' on BBC iPlayer. It is about alcoholism and follows four individuals.

It made me extremely sad to see these people battling what we are all still fighting/have fought so far.

I saw myself in their habitual behaviour, drinking upon waking, losing family, hurting others, becoming ill.

Whilst some parts were pretty uncomfortable viewing, I am glad I got through the programme because I never, ever want to go back to the utter misery this poison brings to our lives, and how it dissolves everything around us.

I had no idea that cirrhosis can still be so progressive that it can be deadly for even 10 years after being dry.

Sending my support to everyone on here.

This is a very hard fight and I appreciate all the amazing support on SR. :grouphug:

Sounds like an interesting video. I'm going to look for it over here in the US.

Edit: It's on Utube. One hour and 38 min, so it's probably the whole show.

Yes that's the one. Film length.

I've seen other documentries and programmes on alcoholism but this one particularly got to me.

I wish I'd known about it years ago because I may well have thought more about pouring endless pints of gin down my throat followed by a whiskey chaser. Utter insanity.

That documentary wass a tough watch, I saw it a few years ago, but if it stops us in time then it will have done some good. There might be a thread on it in the media and culture section of SR.

There is another that really touched me called “alcohol drugged high on alcohol” and would recommend a watch. Quite heartbreaking x

Ps it’s on youtube

Fam is out all day, not returning until late. Sounds like just the sort of thing to remind me to stay out of trouble.

It’s a very well done documentary. I’ve watched it a few times now, but only after I stopped drinking. I watch videos like that now to remind me not to go back to drinking. When I was drinking, I studiously avoided watching programming like that

I am looking forward to watching it. Thanks for the link!

It's a very intense documentary, but if I had watched it a few years before I quit I suspect I would have thought "how sad" and completely denied that I was anything like "those people." That's the nature of the beast.

Wow, I just watched it, I had never seen it before.
Heartbreakingly difficult viewing that is so relatable. Think it will stay with me a long time.

Thanks for the recommendation CC.

I have watched rain in my heart several times it’s an excellent documentary. You can’t sugar coat allcohollism.

When alcohol has taken everything it then comes for you. It’s a painful slow death sentence.

I’m going to watch this when I have some time. Thank you!
HBO did a documentary called Risky Drinking which showed four or five individuals with different lifestyles at different stages of alcohol use disorder. It was incredibly sad. I related to both the college girl and the mom in that one. So sad. So glad I don’t drink at all anymore. It was such a mind game trying to go back to moderation. It never worked.
