Day 12

Doing well, getting back into the gym every morning and been keeping up with my plan so far. I meet with my sponsor for the first time tonight to help set up for a meeting here locally. I had him temporarily in summer as my sponsor, and I trust him and get along with him too.

Anyone have any good books to recommend that helped them with sobriety? And to learn more about it?

Great job. A routine is good and the gym as part of it great!

I really loved Kick the Drink Easily. For some reason it spoke to me more than Naked Mind and Allen Carr’s books. Also loved Drinking a Love Story, Blackout, and Mommy Doesn’t Drink Here Anymore. Not sure how much the latter three would appeal but highly recommend Kick the Drink. Am also rereading Lit which is beautifully written. Dry was enjoyable. Way to go on Day 12! Hope you find lots of books that speak to you.

Great job on 12 days!

I have to say what I always do for those just starting - Living Sober is a great and easy read about the 1st year. It's avail on Amazon.

I read a lot of memoirs (btw Anna has a great reading list somewhere so maybe she will share again since I am bad at links) and some of the best were-
Christopher Kennedy Lawford's books, especially Moments of Clarity
Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp - I've read this a number of times and it is brilliant
Blackout by Sarah Hepola - scarily close to much of my story
Russell Brand's Recovery (aka F*in 12 Steppin') is funny and spot on
Elizabeth Vargas's book Breathing Under Water - a particularly good story of anxiety coupled with addiction
Dry by Augusten Burroughs- quite rough in parts but the frankness is good, IMO

Non-memoir stuff -
The Untethered Soul is a good spiritual and awareness book
On deck for me is The Recovering: Intoxication and Its Aftermath

A good search of Amazon comes up with a loooot of options.

This reminds me that I need to ask those I've parceled my library out among to return them- or tell me what they have so I can re-order!!
